Nathan Filion and Neil Patrick Harris will star in Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, a superhero musical blog from the mind of Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon. Self-described as something that Whedon and his brother came up with during the writers’ strike, it will be, presumably, released in several parts online….
Given Whedon’s success with the musical episode of Buffy, which still airs at movie theaters across the country as a midnight cult hit, we are pretty encouraged that this will be a fun time. Especially given NPH’s involvement. Damn, Doogie can sing.

Now here is some interesting news. Word has it that Nathan Fillion (Joey, One Life to Live) has signed on to co-star in a three episode web musical with Neil Patrick Harris called “Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” written and created by primetime super writer Joss Whedon. Joss whedon talks about it on Whedonesque.

Just got home from 12 hours on the set of Dr. Horrible. Thanks to Otto, Meredith and Cap, Joss cast me in the role of Mayor Hankins. I had no idea what I was walking into. What a blast. Having read the script a few days earlier didn’t give me a clue about how incredible this day would be. It was the music that just floored me. And boy are you right about Neils voice. The incredible eerie melody of his rebuttal song and the way he performed it was amazing. Working with you Felicia and Nathan was a treat. Major CUDOS to Jed, Zach, Maurissa and Joss for coming up with Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog. I am honored to be in it. Love ya Penny.

So … during a recent chat with AICN, Neil Patrick Harris said: “I’m doing a web short film that Joss Whedon is directing and wrote called DR. HORRIBLE’S SING-A-LONG BLOG. That’s a musical about super villains and crossing my fingers for the next round of Dancing With The Stars. (long pause) No …” This, of course, led to a flurry of comments over at Whedonesque, and Joss himself finally weighed in, giving us another reason to love the Internet.
…
Just to make it even better — NPH is Dr. Horrible, who I presume is the super-villain, Nathan Fillion is Captain Hammer (mean ol’ superhero?), and Felicia Day is Penny. Day, by the way, was the young newbie slayer Vi on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
