Doctor Horrible is on the Move
Due to the super high traffic volume, Doctor Horrible is being moved to a new server and is expected to be operational within a couple hours.
The address will remain the same - www.drhorrible.com
You can still download the episode through iTunes if you’re in the USA or Canada.
Thanks for being patient.
Update:
Some people are reporting being able to access the official Dr Horrible site at it’s new server however it may be some time before all visitors are able to access the site. This is because of the way your computer translates the websites’s IP address to the URL www.drhorrible.com . Please be patient and trust that even if you’re still getting a page not found error, it will correct itself soon. It’s best to leave it for an hour or two before trying again (if you can withstand the temptation).

Do you think that the download will be available in other countries? Because I’m French and I want the episode!!!! (and 3,99 USD for the 3 is a real opportunity!)
July 15th, 2008 at 6:49 pmNo. This means his influence is spreading. It’s all about the presentation.
July 15th, 2008 at 6:49 pmthanks for the update!!
July 15th, 2008 at 6:52 pmSorry to hear your having server problems! If you could get it in UK iTunes that would be cool (I can’t buy from the US one
)
Keep up the good work
July 15th, 2008 at 6:53 pmgreat work!! I want to see it again at least once today. It would be great to get a number of how many of us it took to crash the server….
July 15th, 2008 at 7:00 pmAlas I was too slow, and can’t download Itunes (I’m slackin’ at work)… but I’ll try again tomorrow!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:13 pmThat really sucks that iTunes won’t let the non-living in the U.S. people buy the season.
July 15th, 2008 at 7:15 pmHowever thanks for keeping us aware of what is going on.
Yaaay
July 15th, 2008 at 7:19 pmAwww, we crashed the server because there is simply too much love in our hearts
July 15th, 2008 at 7:22 pmYeah, please move it soon! I wnat to see it! n_n (and I’m in Argentina so the Itunes store doesn’t even work here… u_u)
July 15th, 2008 at 7:23 pm“That really sucks that iTunes won’t let the non-living in the U.S. people buy the season.”
iTunes discriminates against the American undead? How dare they!
(Sorry, that’s how I kept reading that…)
July 15th, 2008 at 7:27 pmPâmu: The “non-living” in the U.S. have a difficult time doing pretty much anything that living people anywhere do.
Seriously, though, they’re working on access from outside North America.
July 15th, 2008 at 7:29 pmDr. Horrible is AMAZING!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:32 pmStop rubbing it in Anny!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:38 pmLOVED IT! Can’t wait to see the rest! Joss is King.
July 15th, 2008 at 7:42 pmI can barely contain my excitement! Since when did a couple of hours feel like forever!! SQUEEEEE!!!
July 15th, 2008 at 7:47 pmYeahy working for me now, excellent can’t wait to see the rest now
For those windows users that know add this to your hosts file:
207.57.78.179 http://www.drhorrible.com
points the domain to the new server on your computer (for those where DNS change hasn’t caught up with you)
Best take it out again in future should the server get moved again.

July 15th, 2008 at 7:57 pmEDIT BY ADMIN: PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE CONFIDENT ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING
Some people (at least on PC) may be able to run: “ipconfig /flushdns” (without quotes) to refresh the local DNS cache (forcing the computer to go look up the entry again rather than relying on what it remembers from the last lookup).
July 15th, 2008 at 8:01 pmIt finally came up but now it says “This video is not available at this site”. Why, oh, why?!
July 15th, 2008 at 8:05 pmLinds, are you running Norton Antivirus? It’s probably blocking it.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:12 pmAct I is great! The action! The adventure! The romance! The singing?!
Caper on, Dr. Horrible!
July 15th, 2008 at 8:20 pmYeah, I am. Do you know how to stop it?
July 15th, 2008 at 8:20 pmArgh! I’m getting the “This video is not available at the site” too, and I’m not running Norton and never have been! Meh!
Could it be cos I’m in the UK? Or should it work for the world?
July 15th, 2008 at 8:27 pmOr just put http://207.57.78.179/ into your address bar…
July 15th, 2008 at 8:30 pmHmmm, did the hosts hack but it’s loading very slowly. Could be my computer’s connection. Oh well, I have something. I was beginning to experience withdrawal.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:36 pmNo need to do fancy windows stuff, you can just point your browser at http://207.57.78.179/ however I am getting the video is not available error too.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:36 pmYessss! It’s working! You really need to update your hosts file, seems that Hulu is checking the domain name - simply entering the IP address will result in the “video is not available at this site” error.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:38 pmAlso getting “this video is not available at this site”. Not running Norton or anything like it.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:39 pmSince I’m a member of the “non US living” I can’t download it…is it also blocked for streaming outside the US?
How do I do that? (Update the hosts thingy) I’m not very computer-saavy.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:42 pmGreat First Act! I am waiting impatiently until Thursday for the next one. Bravo Joss!
July 15th, 2008 at 8:53 pmFor those saying they are getting an error - it’s because the video file won’t work unless you’re accessing the site via the domain name http://www.drhorrible.com
Again, if you’re not confident about doing something like this it is not something you should play with, if you are patient you will be able to access the site without changing any settings and without the risk of messing anything up. It really is better to just wait it out.
July 15th, 2008 at 8:53 pmI’m really getting sick of videos being released online for America (and occasionally Canada) only. Don’t you like our money or something? (Australia here)
July 15th, 2008 at 9:16 pmA much easier way to defeat the old, cached address on your machine is to use the url http://drhorrible.com if you previously used http://www.drhorrible.com
(and vice versa)
Your machine sees the version with and without www as different servers, and will look up the new DNS, no problemo!
(Unless you have tried both variants earlier, of course)
July 15th, 2008 at 9:19 pmhttp://drhorrible.com/act_I.html looks like it works direct.
July 15th, 2008 at 9:23 pmColin - when you can get to the http://www.drhorrible.com website you can watch for free, even from Australia - several Australians got it to work before the server suffered an overload. I don’t think it’s been ruled out as being available on iTunes in other countries yet either so stay tuned. The DVD is also coming.
July 15th, 2008 at 9:24 pmflushdns also works, too. (google it)
July 15th, 2008 at 9:25 pmFor the DVD I’m afraid they release only in US and Canada…
July 15th, 2008 at 9:29 pmThe DNS servers should be catching up pretty soon. (Your local DNS cache might still hold on to the old IP unless you “flush” it to force the computer to look up the information from the Internet again. It’s easy and safe on PC [Google "flushdns" for a full run-down], dunno about Apple….)
July 15th, 2008 at 9:30 pmI can view the site at the IP address provided, but it says that the movie “is not available at this site”…what gives?
July 15th, 2008 at 9:35 pmOh God, I can’t believe I missed the first episode! Oh, the agony!!!!
July 15th, 2008 at 9:35 pmI have performed a DNS flush twice, however the URL still times out and when I look at the IP it is pointing to 128.121.175.96 not 207.57.78.179. I tried another DNS flush after clearning all internet history, cookies, etc, but still the same issue.
Not sure what the solution is, but thought I’d post this in case others have tried a DNS flush w/o success.
Note, I’ve made attempts with both IE and Firefox but found the same issues with each.
July 15th, 2008 at 9:46 pmI can get http://207.57.78.179/ to work, but once I get there hulu says that “This video is not available at this site.”
July 15th, 2008 at 9:50 pmIt seems to be working well for me now… well, obviously since I am posting this on the site.
This was sooo much better than I was expecting.
July 15th, 2008 at 9:53 pm“This video is not available at this site.” - what do we do now?
July 15th, 2008 at 9:56 pmWatched it this morning at 6pm before work, all I can say is …
Legendary!
July 15th, 2008 at 9:59 pmarrrrrrg!
July 15th, 2008 at 10:03 pmAh poo. Still not working for me. Will try again tomorrow morn. *fingers crossed*
July 15th, 2008 at 10:05 pmThe Hulu “This video is not available at this site.” message is because the video will only work from http://www.DrHorrible.com, you can’t just visit http://207.57.78.179/ because when Hulu checks the referrer it won’t recognize it. You either need to wait, or updates your HOSTS file so you can use http://www.DrHorrible.com - if you do that, then it will work.
You need to wait for your ISP’s name server to update so it resolves to the new IP address. Usually takes a few hours (up to 24). Or you can switch ISPs/Name servers.
July 15th, 2008 at 10:07 pmI was told it was on hulu but i do not see it there.
July 15th, 2008 at 10:07 pmOh yeaaaah, Whedon does it again! Definitely waiting for the next two parts of the episode!
July 15th, 2008 at 10:22 pmWonderful! Can’t wait for the rest!
July 15th, 2008 at 10:49 pmFinally!! I did the flushdns and it came right up! I loved it and can’t wait for the next part.
July 15th, 2008 at 11:26 pmFlushing the DNS doesn’t seem to be solving it for me. How do I edit the host file? It won’t let me save it in Notebook or Word. It just saves a text copy of the file.
July 15th, 2008 at 11:33 pmWhat RaisedByMongrels said…
July 15th, 2008 at 11:52 pmIn the spirit of this whole project I add to the vote that the DVD release should be Region 0 (all regions) disc. I just hope your DVD can play PAL, or NTSC whichever it comes out on.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:01 amStill no luck with flushing the DNS, my system here still looks for the old IP no matter how many times I run ipconfig/flushdns (even though the system indicates that the flush was successful). Hopefully, I’ll be able to access this from home later.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:05 amOpenbsd.
Real servers run real OSes and don’t crash. *sigh*
*plug favorite OS*
*plug favorite OS*
*plug favorite OS*
I wish my DNS updated already. Got the IP?
July 16th, 2008 at 12:28 amYeah- I was able to get it this am but no luck now from several different computers. It’s been more than a few hours. I’m officially bummed.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:35 amBeen trying for more than eight hours now, on a variety of different computers… no luck so far…
July 16th, 2008 at 12:38 amWell… the 1st act was… well odd.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:46 amAny hope for mac users?
July 16th, 2008 at 1:05 ami tried to this morning 5am (in between) 7am through out til 9am. its still not working
im still trying again though.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:37 amIt still won’t work for me. It hasn’t been working all day. I keep getting the page not found thing.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:47 amWell its 10:00pm Ontario time, still not up, been refressing the twitter and webpage for most of today. Tried the IP thing, get the site but no video and I can’t install Itunes on this system. I’m disappointed… especially with all the great reviews
July 16th, 2008 at 2:02 amRats, still no luck. Only got to watch once this morning when I left for work. I NEED MORE! Can’t do I TUnes yet. Grrr. Argg.
Well, I get that with all new things there are bugs to work out. But I wish they’d squash this big ol’ cockroach (sp) so I can get my Joss Jollies!
July 16th, 2008 at 2:12 amIt’s working this afternoon from Australia, hurrah!
July 16th, 2008 at 2:23 amHooray! The website is accessible from Australia again!
July 16th, 2008 at 2:35 amNow all i have to do is wait for my lunch break so i can watch it!
Long live NPH…
> Any hope for mac users?
Eh? I’ve watched it 6 times already on my Mac, from the UK, and it was all kinds of awesome…
July 16th, 2008 at 2:45 amTried flushdns from home and was able to access the site. Unfortunately, even when I access the site via the URL (rather than the IP), I still get the “This Video is not available message.” It is only 8:22pm here in this part of the states so I hope it isn’t because the access has already expired.
Guess I’ll have to download iTunes (I’m one of those crazy anti-iTunes people).
July 16th, 2008 at 3:23 amWell - that was certainly worth cluttering up my system with iTunes (seriously). Great fun. I’m looking forward to the next two acts.
July 16th, 2008 at 4:07 amEverytime I try it it SAYS it’s opened but all I get is a big blank page of nothingness. Says it’s done opening and all on http://www.drhorrible.com so :(.
any suggestions anyone?
July 16th, 2008 at 4:14 amPlease try the new site put up by the Dr Horrible team:
http://www.drhorrible.com.nyud.net/
They tweeted the new link a little while ago and it seems to work fine.
July 16th, 2008 at 4:28 am11:36 pm central 7/15. Still not available, even tracert dies trying to get there.
July 16th, 2008 at 4:36 amwell i watched it , and it was great. I am looking forward to the next installments. Who would think i would be rooting for the villain? Go Horrible!
July 16th, 2008 at 5:13 amWell,I just finished purchasing my little piece of history. Joss and gang, we are extremely proud of you all and what you are accomplishing here. The vast majority of us realize that you are doing your best to get this out to ALL your fans regardless of nationality and we thank you for that. And yeah, Dr. Horrible kicks butt! Felicia, as a fellow “girl in real life”, anytime you want a quest buddy…
/hugs all
July 16th, 2008 at 6:53 amI am SO glad that you are experiencing server problems! I mean, it sucks for you… but I had to promise my wife that I wouldn’t watch the episodes until we have this big shindig (yes, intended) at our house where all of our friends will watch the whole show with us this weekend.
BUT… she’s asleep. And it’s OH SO TEMPTING!
I know that our friend Joey (Randolphini) will read this, becuase she’s a complete junkie. So, it’s really fortunate that I have proof that I couldn’t watch the first episode yet.
(OK… I may have seen the first 5 minutes… but that doesn’t count as cheating! I was simply performing a system test prior to the home theatrical release party!)
July 16th, 2008 at 7:41 amWeeell, I’m happy there are server-breaking stampeding hordes. Stampeding hordes mean SUCCESS. On the other hand, I still can’t view it. And iTunes is ticking me off. (America Only might vaguely make sense for regular TV, but in this case? Booo.)
Sidenote: Did the hordes break Felicia Day’s site as well? Heh. More buzz for the Guild then. Well deserved.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:14 am[...] I, I’m reminding you again that it’s out and free this week. It was so popular that it crushed their servers, but is back up and in business again. But the word is out and it is good. It’s even the #1 [...]
July 16th, 2008 at 11:18 amneither link works for me,first one says can’t access, may be busy; the temp one is blank.
(insert many pouty faces here)
July 16th, 2008 at 11:31 amTry this link
July 16th, 2008 at 11:36 amOk, now it is official cuz Dr.Horrible really proves it Josh&Co. you guy are really out of your mind! In a positiv non-twisted way…I love it! I am so glad that it now works and even in Germany! I was kinda worried about that. Can’t way to see the next two parts and buying the DVD…aaahhhhrggg it is so awesome!
July 16th, 2008 at 11:40 amThank you guys!
Let’s hope the DVD will be region free and avaible in NTSC _and_ PAL, so people willing to pay for it really can.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:31 pmGah, forgot to mention:
Thank you, Joss!
July 16th, 2008 at 12:32 pmFor the love of Dr Horrible, please make this available on non-American iTunes stores.
July 16th, 2008 at 3:41 pmI have been able to get to the site but Hulu says the video is not available on this site. I have tried
July 16th, 2008 at 7:19 pmhttp://www.drhorrible.com, http://www.drhorrible.com.nyud.net/act_I.html, as well as the IP Address. I have flushed my DNS and renewed my IP. Any ideas?
Of course right after I did that, my message did get posted. Son of a Reaver!
Anyway. Haven’t been able to view the site yet, but will try at home.
But kudos to Mr. Whedon for the buzz on this. But after all, you are a professional.
By the way, do people ever confuse you and Will Wheaton, and do you kill those who do? And how do you kill them? Please describe in 50 ways to kill your lover, or less.
When I’ve seen it I may have something more coherent to write. I might even be inspired to creativity (I am a screen writer (who isn’t) who has optioned one (1) short script to a UK company, so you can sleep nights as you won’t have to sue my buttocks off.)
Shledzguohn, tanturm in somniis!
July 16th, 2008 at 7:44 pmall the sites, no matter how you type it, WORK….but i (like others) still get “this video is not available at this site”
SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!
thank you :/
July 16th, 2008 at 10:40 pmCheck the FAQ page - the suggestions there may help
July 16th, 2008 at 10:48 pmIt helped that I changed my timout (network.http.keep-alive.timeout in about:config in firefox) from the default 300 to 900.It got rid of the “site timing out” error page.
July 16th, 2008 at 11:58 pmPlease let`s have this in UK iTunes?????
July 17th, 2008 at 8:40 am
