Dr Horrible in the Top 3

Dr. Horrible, an Amazon Bestseller

The Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog DVD has crept up to the #3 spot on Amazon DVDs after being released a little over a week ago.

There was a mad pre-Christmas rush as people purchased multiple copies of the DVD with many choosing the expedited shipping option in hopes of it arriving in time to give as gifts over the holiday. Bad weather caused some shipping delays much to the frustration of fans who were eagerly awaiting their copies and many international fans are still awaiting the arrival of their purchases.

People have been spending up big on Amazon with Amazon reporting that this has been their “best year ever” so the high ranking is no small feat.

Reviews of the DVD have been overwhelmingly positive and the hidden easter eggs on the disk have spawned much discussion. A search for Commentary! The Musical shows over 11,000 results in Google not bad for something that’s only been out for a week!

Soundtrack CD sales have been a bit slower, perhaps due to the huge number of fans that have already purchased the soundtrack via iTunes or Amazon downloads but the CD is still ranking in the top #50.

The DVD is region free and will also be available through the Canadian Amazon store at the end of this month (keep watching this website for details on the Canadian release) and is expected in the UK soon.

Can we buy a copy in Australia without it having to be shipped all the way from the US?

Unfortunately not. The DVD release is an Amazon exclusive so is only available through Amazon stores, currently in the US and on pre-order in Canada, coming soon to the UK. Australia has no Amazon store so no DVD down-under unless you have it shipped from one of the other stores. Being in Australia myself I feel your pain. I did add a few extra copies when I placed my order so will have a couple of copies available but the estimated shipping date is Jan 12 and the cost will probably be only a couple of dollars cheaper than buying it yourself (without me making any profit from it). If you’re interested contact me through the contact page on this site.

What’s even more astonishing is that the two discs above it in the chart (The Dark Knight and Band of Brothers) are both Blu-Ray – so Dr H is the highest selling normal DVD on the Amazon chart!

    James, that’s a good point!

    Hooray!
I received my copy in Germany on the 27th so it took only 8 days of standart shipping despite the holidays. I didn’t have to pay any customs fees because the price is low enough which might have accelerated the whole process.

I bought one as a gift and one for myself and received it in plenty of time for Christmas. It received one of the best reactions a gift has gotten in a long time. Not bad for $9.99.

Now that I’ve had the chance to enjoy my DVD in its full glory I hope they will make “Commentary!” downloadable soon. I’d love to play it in my car stereo!

The Horrible Doctor is now just one step away from world domination with only the highly defined Batman standing in his way.

When I checked amazon.ca today it said that the DVD was unavailable and that I could sign up to be notified when it became available. How come the status changed?

Dang, I’m going to have to buy a new DVD player. I’m zone 4 and PAL – so I either get the Zone 2 one which my machine won’t play, or the multizone but NTSC one which my player will play in black and white.

    Admin Says:

Matt – most Australian purchased DVD players can be easily converted into multi region (I’m not sure if the same applies to other region 4 locations), do a Google search for your model and you’ll probably find instructions, it’s usually just a matter of pressing a few buttons on the remote. I haven’t had any trouble playing anything in NTSC format yet so you might be ok.

Will there be a Blu-ray version of Dr Horrible?
