FAQ
Why is Hulu blocking international viewers again.
We (the fan site) don’t know, this has only just happened and we’re looking into why.
Where can I see Dr Horrible?
Tunes
Currently you can buy Dr Horrible on iTunes if you’re in the US or Canada, it will be made available in other countries soon. It’s not simply a matter of asking iTunes in other countries to make it available, there’s red tape to get through.
Hulu
You can watch Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog on Hulu. You can also view through the Hulu on the Dr Horrible Official Site and through the Hulu being embedded on other sites like this fan site. Please don’t support viewing on youtube or other unofficial means.
DVD
Dr Horrible will be released on DVD (anticipated to be some time before December). The DVD will be available internationally.
Why can’t I download it on iTunes in Australia/Uk/Other country…
The team are working on it but it’s not a simple process. We’ll update when we find out more about dates.
The Hulu video isn’t working, how can I fix it?
- Clear your browser cache/cookies
- Turn off your firewall (eg, Norton)
- Update to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player
- Try a different browser (some report it works better for them in Internet Explorer)
- See comments at the bottom of this page for other suggestions
Where is the Official Doctor Horrible website?
This site is the Official Fan Site for Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog but there is also an Official Website (that’ll have all the GOOD stuff).
Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog also has official pages for MySpace, Facebook & Twitter.

Other Doctor Horrible Websites
When was Doctor Horrible be released?
- Part 1 - Tuesday July 15
- Part 2 - Thursday July 17
- Part 3 - Saturday July 19
Will there be a DVD available to buy?
Yes. It will be a special release āwith the finest and bravest extras in all the landā will be available. [source]
We’re already working on some of the DVD extras, which are going to be the finest in all the land. We’re actually going to do, in addition to the commentary, what we refer to as ācommentary with an exclamation point’! A musical commentary that is a completely original musical, that is all commentary songs, and we’re writing that now… We’re just piling it on. We’re like, we’re going to make more fun of the idea of extras than anything else. [source]
The Dr Horrible team will select their favorite 10 submissions for the Evil League of Evil to include on the DVD and there will be lots of other bonus features included as well.
What other merchandise will be available?
- Soundtrack - Should be available soon.
- Tee-Shirts - available at j!nx
- Action Figures - Hopefully soon.

How can I help spread the word?
You can embed Dr Horrible on your website through Hulu. You can also add the video to your MySpace page.
Write about Doctor Horrible in your blog, on your website, myspace page etc. You can add banners to your forums signatures or place them on your website or anywhere else you can think of.
You’ll find the official banners here
When I tried to access the video this morning and clicked on Act I, I eventually got a message that the video is not available at this site (hulu), and there’s a link to download the video at itunes (for a cost).
July 15th, 2008 at 1:09 pmI had the same issue as Patti.
July 15th, 2008 at 1:58 pmIt’s working well for me- I’m so, so happy Dr. Horrible was made available outside the USA! I’m playing expat in China for a few months but eesh, no Dr. Horrible? I would’ve gone home to the States.
July 15th, 2008 at 2:25 pmwahhh its not working!
July 15th, 2008 at 3:02 pmFolks, its almost certainly struggling under the crushing weight of its (hopefully, but I have faith) inevitable popularity - just keep on clicking and you’ll get through eventually.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:21 pmFor those of you who can’t currently stream the video, I promise it’s well worth it to spend the $4 on iTunes for the season pass.
I spent it after watching the free stream early this morning. Come on and support Mutant Enemy!
July 15th, 2008 at 3:23 pmYes - iTunes is totally the way to go if you can’t the site working. Hopefully soon they’ll have it for international peeps on iTunes.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:48 pmI would spends 4 bucks for a season pass the only problem is I hate iTunes with a burning passion and refuse to install it on my system!
July 15th, 2008 at 10:02 pmWhat time after on July 20th are they no longer free?
July 15th, 2008 at 10:09 pmWOW ,They can ALL sing! Very cool!Mr. Fillion has the voice to go along with the looks. I did get it on i-tunes and was glad i did! Hey Joss, way to go,being a firefly fan, i am so happy to see more of your work. Can’t wait to see parts 2 and 3, the whole cast was great!More please!!!
July 15th, 2008 at 11:54 pmHey, Joss, great you released it on iTunes. But how about Zune podcasts??? Pips with Zune players want to download it as well!!!

Cheers,
July 15th, 2008 at 11:56 pmAl
Wondering if the reason I can’t access the site is cuz I have a Mac. Logic tells me this shouldn’t be the case, but I’ve been trying for a while now one three different browsers. Have even rebooted. Will try at work tomorrow and if that doesn’t work, iTunes it is.
July 16th, 2008 at 12:19 am[...] FAQ for Watching [...]
July 16th, 2008 at 2:23 amI would be willing to pay for the iTunes option, but it’s only available in the US and Canada.
July 16th, 2008 at 2:46 amAre there any subtitles? with normal timing, not just lirics
July 16th, 2008 at 7:32 amDumb Question but this DVD relese, will it be avalable outside the United States or will I have to sell my first born for an imported copy, all the way to this strange land we know as the United Kingdom (a mystical place where DVD’s are hardly ever realsed with full content three months after EVERYONE else has got them)
July 16th, 2008 at 2:12 pmI couldn’t watch it with Internet Explorer. I got the message that the video wasn’t available on the site. When I switched to Firefox it worked just fine. I can’t wait for part two.
July 16th, 2008 at 2:50 pmI keep getting the hulu “video not available” message– I’ve tried clearing cookies, refreshing repeatedly, and have tried at different hours (5pm, 7pm, 9pm, midnight, 5am, 2pm, 4pm, 7pm, 8pm, now…). Can someone PLEASE give a little more guidance than “see the FAQ?” I’ve practically memorized the FAQ by now… I WANNA SEE DR. HORRIBLE!!

July 17th, 2008 at 2:21 amAnybody know what time zone they’re using when they say that the episodes will cease to be available after midnight July 20th?
July 17th, 2008 at 5:08 amThere’s a problem with ITUNES it won’t download Act II !
July 17th, 2008 at 7:20 amI’ve been unable to see it (from UK). Updated flash player, cleared cache. No joy.
This is quite frustrating!
July 17th, 2008 at 8:53 amAh, sorted….
It turns out that it was an MSIE vs Firefox issue (this time MSIE won).
It’s been ages since I had one of those!
July 17th, 2008 at 10:52 amIs there a reason iTunes doesn’t have Act II? I bought the season pass so I could lighten the load on the site, but if I’m not getting the parts at the same time, it was a waste of my effort.
July 17th, 2008 at 12:55 pmYea! They will have the soundtrack available. I will certainly buy that! And the DVD.
July 17th, 2008 at 1:13 pmJoss, Neil and Nathan made this a MUST HAVE when I saw it on iTunes Tuesday morning. My kids are running around singing ACT 1 and can’t wait until tonight to see Act 2. We’re excited for the soundtrack and DVD releases.
July 17th, 2008 at 1:48 pmI may just have to get the itunes downloads so I can watch them ad nauseum until the DVD release. And the soundtrack! Me want soundtrack now! If only to satisfy my urge to hear the freeze ray song (on repeat, all day) at work.
July 17th, 2008 at 2:35 pmGutted. I saw both episodes for the first time at work today and told people I work with that I was going to buy these if only to support the experimental format under which it was produced (ever since Firefly I’ve been a huge fan of both Whedon and Fillion). I get home tonight and not only can I not purchase it online, I can’t even watch it without digging into my router documentation to figure out how to disable my firewall.
The US isn’t your only market, Joss. There are many of us that actually want to pay for the privilege of watching your work. You’re basically giving us no other option than piracy
July 17th, 2008 at 2:35 pmAny idea when a CD soundtrack will be released (or the music on iTunes)? I already want what I’ve heard on my mp3 player. I’ve had the songs in my head all day. I don’t remember when the Buffy soundtrack was released, but I think I got it soon after it aired.
July 18th, 2008 at 12:05 amI loved it - absolute genius! Reminded me of the Buffy episode where they all sing too - my fave episode!
I’m here in Tokyo and i have no problems watching it at all and very tempted to make my first itunes purchase so i can watch it over and over!
July 18th, 2008 at 1:59 amI tried to watch Act II again today, but the feed freezes and crashes my connection. Anyone with any ideas? Is it just me, or can I do something to help? I’d hate to miss the last Act tomorrow!
July 18th, 2008 at 8:00 amI WANT THE DVD TODAY!!!! a singing commentary?!?! I’m sure it will be amazing. And I thought Adam (Baldwin) in his fuzzy hat was as good as it gets.
July 18th, 2008 at 8:14 amI loved both ACT I and II and can’t wait until III, but I like quite a few who have already mentioned this above, am unable to buy them from itunes as I am not from Canada or the U.S. (I am from Australia)
I hope that the itunes for internationals is fixed soon as I really really want to show my support by purchasing through itunes, but I CAN’T!!!!
July 18th, 2008 at 3:11 pmI…just…get…so…angry!
Doctor Horrible is fantastic, I love watching it on the website funny as anything, and I decided that to h.e. double hockey sticks with being sensible and to buy through iTunes… I was willing to pay nominal charge or anything like that…I normally would refuse to pay, but it’s such a damn good show and I wanted to watch it over and over again that I was happy to part with money.
But hey! Guess what, surprise surprise! UK resident as I am can’t because it’s only available in US and Canada…
I’m so tired of this happening to me on nearly anything and everything I wanna watch. It’s so frustrating. I don’t wanna have to move to the states just to get the same rights on the internet as them. It’s called the ‘world wide web’ not the ‘US wide web’. Would someone please start giving everyone equal opportunity for this sort of thing on the net? It’s just not fair, it looks a bit like favoritism.
July 18th, 2008 at 5:15 pmdid joss write the music and lyrics?
July 18th, 2008 at 11:04 pmiTunes? No thanks. If that hula problem can’t be fixed, or an alternate viewing page isn’t set up, then I guess I’ll never see it.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:15 amsame as # 1 & # 18

July 19th, 2008 at 12:19 amne’er mind.
July 19th, 2008 at 12:20 amIt was my firewall!!!
solved and enjoying it.
So, I’ve got a Zune, and I’d love to download these podcasts for it. Is there a way I can get them for my Zune? Or is it basicly an Ipod Exclusive?
July 19th, 2008 at 2:36 amThe iTunes version is in the M4V DRM-protected format. It is intended for the authorized iTunes program (though Quicktime on an authorized iTunes computer can play it) and authorized iPod-based devices. That’s just the proper-use info, though.
July 19th, 2008 at 3:07 amditto Pete @36… how can people say it is an issue with their firewall? my firewall is doing exactly what I want it to do — this is a problem with Hulu.
http://st4rbux.wordpress.com/2008/07/18/almost-brilliant/
July 19th, 2008 at 3:20 amWatched (and loved) acts I and II at work yesterday, tried and failed to watch act III at home today. I’m going on holiday today, and if I can’t find a way to watch the last part tomorrow somehow, I doubt I’ll be able to without resorting to piracy, since I’m a UK resident, so I can’t get the itunes and am unlikely to see a DVD release i the forseeable future. It would have been better if Joss had used a more universally accessible system than Hulu for distribution - one that isn’t so fundamentally broken that you need to change browsers or mess with your firewall to use it.
July 19th, 2008 at 7:25 amPlease please please tell me that its going to be at the end of day on the 20th that they no longer become available, so it will still be up tomorrow morning (in the UK)?? I’m away today and the computer I am on is just useless and cant handle the streaming video.
July 19th, 2008 at 8:34 amEveryone — I had this same problem in firefox and have the solution. The problem for me was that firefox was set to not send a referer header and so the security model that hulu.com uses did not work. The fix (for firefox) is:
Type “about:config” without the quotes into one of your firefox browser window location bars and press enter.
A long list should appear with a “filter” box at the top. In that box, type “referer”
The long list should now be reduced to one entry, which is called “network.http.sendRefererHeader”
If you are having this problem, the value for that line is probably 0 or 1. It needs to be set to 2 to allow referers for links AND embedded content (1 is for links only, 0 is no referers at all).
Double-click the line and type “2″ (without the quotes) into the text box that pops up.
Go back to http://drhorrible.com/act_I.html and it should work!
July 19th, 2008 at 12:43 pmThanks, Josh. That got the videos working…
July 19th, 2008 at 8:37 pmNo offense but it’s 2008 and downloading 3 chapters of a show shouldn’t be this hard.
I will definitely buy the DVD but in the meantime would like to take advantage of the free week.
I have no problems watching reruns of shows on any of the TV web sites and have no problems getting other things to download on MySpace or You Tube or any of those sites.
For some reason I get zilch from the Dr. Horrible and/or Hulu sites.
Why in the heck would I need to go through all kinds of steps when other people seem to have figured out how to make their sites user friendly.
I am a bit disappointed to say the least - best wishes to the 2 people who posted Acts 1 and 2 on You Tube - thank you! I hope you are kind enough to post the 3rd act also.
July 19th, 2008 at 9:52 pmSo, the iTunes download is only available in the US, and those of us over in Europe are stuck with a low-quality Flash rendition that will disappear in the immediate future? That does it, Whedon. I shall destroy you and everything you hold dear. This insult shall not be forgotten, nor yet forgiven. When your world is burning around you, you’ll remember the moment you made that decision and cry tears of anguish, knowing that it’s too late to undecide it. No, wait, unmake it. Undo it. You know what I mean.
Um. Does anyone know where I can get a decent death ray? Preferably second hand, otherwise I’ll have to wait until next month to wreak vengeance. Couldn’t find one on eBay (other than one which would only ship within the US - kind of ironic, I guess…)
Your doom is at hand.
Oh, also is there anywhere to pre-order the DVD? Thanks.
July 19th, 2008 at 10:09 pmIf you’re complaing about not being able to buy it in your country’s iTunes, read the interview on the first page of this site. They’re working on it but since they’re American filmmakers they naturally wanted it available in the USA. Canada they said was the next easiest iTunes so there you go. They’re working on setting it up with UK iTunes and other countries, so just be patient.
I have my own question though; will it be iTunes exclusive or will we be able to buy and download for other things? I have a Creative Labs Zen Vision M which doesn’t work with iTunes (part of why I got it- Napster fan here!). If not, I’ll just get the DVD.
July 20th, 2008 at 1:09 amJosh — that worked. Thanks. but..
Setting sendRefererHeader to 0 is a pretty standard browser-hardening step; there is no functional reason for one web server to know where I’m coming from. “Unscrupulous sites can and do abuse this information to violate visitorsā privacy and track them across the Web.” (http://cafe.elharo.com/privacy/privacy-tip-3-block-referer-headers-in-firefox/)
long story short — this is the first case I’ve seen of using these settings where sendRefererHeader actually broke content, so I still contend this is bad implementation.
hopefully the content was worth it.
July 20th, 2008 at 3:21 amJosh, mine already is set to 2 and I still get the message that the video isn’t avialable. That’s on both IE and Firefox. It was fine at work the last two days. Here at home, nothing. whaa~
July 20th, 2008 at 3:43 amHi Joss,
What’s it with you and killing the characters I like best?
Tara
Anya
Wash
Grrrrr…
Aaargh!!!
But, you knew that…
Thanks for everything.

July 20th, 2008 at 5:07 amMargaret, I sympathize with you: I can’t get anything but the “This video is not available at this site” message. In the past few days I have tried every suggested fix I could find on these forums (and a few simple things that didn’t appear here.) Nothing has worked, it’s completely illogical, and I’m pretty fricking frustrated about it by now.
July 20th, 2008 at 5:49 amSo I’m totally with you.
Post if you solve the puzzle!
What about the Zune users?
July 20th, 2008 at 7:04 amI don’t know if it would make any difference for those having problems but have you tried via both http://www.drhorrible.com and http://drhorrible.com ? I doubt it will make any difference but it’s worth trying if you haven’t.
July 20th, 2008 at 7:56 amFIX to try for Norton NIS & “video is not available”
————————————————–
I received “This video is not available at this site”
from hulu within the drhorrible site.
I’m using “Norton Internet Security 2006″,
which was culprit in my case,
and I found a new “fix”/setting that worked for me.
One check-box might work for you: “Browser Privacy”:
1. DO NOT “turn off firewall” (or Norton);
it really isn’t safe and
it really isn’t necessary (in this case).
2. Open Norton Internet Security (”NIS”)
3. NIS “Status & Settings” > “Privacy Control” >
select “Configure”.
4. Select “Custom Level” button.
5. On the “Customize Privacy Settings” page,
UNSELECT/CLEAR “Enable Browser Privacy”
checkmark, then select “OK”.
6. REFRESH the IE viewer page.
7. (If this worked for you, should see Dr Horrible.)
BONUS 1: For maximum security, you only need to disable
the feature “Enable Browser Privacy” just long enough
for hulu to get you to the starting play screen.
You could then turn the feature back on and still
be able to press play.
BONUS 2: For more security, think about not having
other Internet pages open that might take advantage
while this feature is down.
GOOD LUCK!!!
————————————————–
FYI 1: hulu seems to be using a customized “drplayer”
just for this project, so additional/different issues
may have lead you to this same screen. I suspect more
than one version of Norton NIS will cause hulu’s
“drplayer” to face this issue.
FYI 2: The “drplayer” appears to need setup info about
your browser (and what else, I don’t know) that regular
hulu gets some other way. I am not claiming that I know
what risks are associated with temporarily turning off
this feature, but it’s gotta be better than
“turn off firewall”!
FYI 3: Per Norton/Symantec’s Help:
July 20th, 2008 at 2:57 pm“Browser Privacy prevents Web sites from learning the type
of computer and browser that you are using, the Web site
that you last visited, and other information about your
browsing habits. Some Web sites that depend on JavaScript
may not work correctly if they cannot identify the type of
browser that you are using.”
————————————————–
It should maybe be worth mentioning that not every country has an iTunes store. So even when they do figure out the international iTunes - issue, this will still not make this series available for download to everyone. And when I say “everyone” I mean *me*. South Africa doesn’t have an iTunes store, so I’ll be waiting rather patiently for the DVD. If I could wait a year for Firefly, I guess I can wait a while for Dr. Horrible.
July 20th, 2008 at 3:23 pmTHANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, Lurker_at_drh! Your fix (#55) was the *only* suggestion that worked for me. I tried *everything* else everyone suggestion. Holy crap, that was complicated (the whole mess since yesterday).
Niala
July 20th, 2008 at 6:54 pmYES! All hail Lurker_at_DrH. You are the hero of the day (and not in a tool with a tool on his chest kind of way, but totally in a Capt. Tightpants with a BFG kinda way.) Thank you!
July 20th, 2008 at 11:57 pmWhat a disappointment…tried every troubleshooting idea listed above, and nothing works. My PC is brand new, my internet connect is fast, and yet the vids are so choppy it’s like I’m having a seizure. I’ve spent over an hour to make this work, and I’m giving up. Hulu player=FAIL
July 20th, 2008 at 11:58 pmI completely loved it, laughed my *** of and am as far as being able to sing along (well whatayaknow!).
You created a fan in 3.6 seconds.
And not only me, the complete household (and that’s a lot of folks here) enjoyed it.
We KNOW it was supposed to be a short, 3 act ‘fling’…
BUT WE WANT MORE!
Sin-cerely
Seth
July 21st, 2008 at 12:53 amI know other people have asked, but no one seemed to have answered, so I’ll re-ask - Will the DVD be availible in the UK or are we going to have to beg the US stores to send us a copy for extortionate shipping rates, only for it to get here and /maybe/ work on our DVD players if its in a good mood that day?
July 22nd, 2008 at 11:49 amIs There Going To Be More Of Dr. Horrible? I Would Love To See Another Season!
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:23 amI too would like to see the Dr Horrible series on the Zune. A superior musical like Dr. Horrible deserves a superior player like the Zune.
July 23rd, 2008 at 9:47 pmThis is painful. I was out of town, and could not watch Acts II and III online. But I run a PC, not a Mac. And even on a really powerful PC, itunes slows your box down. Waaaaay down. I would never poison my PC by putting itunes on it. Sorry! So I get to be punished because I don’t care about form over function?!? That’s lame! I’m going to buy the DVD, cuz I’m a fan… but next time you guys do this, get you’re release platform straightened out and ready for fans who use many types of media outlets, not just stuff that’s DRM’d to hell.
July 27th, 2008 at 2:39 pmSeriously great movie, Can’t wait for the DVD. But can we get the soundtrack on Itunes. I had Laundry day/Freeze Ray stuck in my head for days, and well I would like to play it on my way to work.
P.S. Best friend and I are so being dr. horrible and captain hammer for halloween.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:49 pmYou know you can watch all 3 acts on hulu right?
Oh, and I’m really looking forward to the DVD.
August 10th, 2008 at 9:20 amI live in Europe, but I was happily on vacation in the ‘States during the Horrible Week and was able to watch it! Only problem is, I’d like to watch it again, but Hulu doesn’t work outside the U.S. I’ve found a few skeezy bootleg sources on youtube, as well as act 1 with Spanish subtitles (also probably unauthorized). I was wondering if anyone knows of a place to watch all three acts online outside the ‘States.
(Of course I’m going to buy it when it comes out on DVD, but who can wait that long? ^_~)
August 13th, 2008 at 11:20 pmYES! PLEASE! soundtrack! I have had the songs stuck in my head ever since I saw Dr Horrible. (I only just watched it for the first time two days ago) I keep listening to the show on my ipod as if it were the soundtrack, but it would be nice to have the music sans background noise (ie quacking ducks)
Already bought it on itunes, but I will also buy the DVD. Lets support the awesomeness!
I also agree that it should be a musical. I would TOTALLY love to see it live!!
August 14th, 2008 at 6:43 pmI agree with the above about the sequel or -future- adventures of Dr. Horrible, standing member of the ELE (Evil League of Evil). Is there anyway to set up a notification for sequels (which is hoping there is more than one, a Big Damn Trilogy maybe?) as well as notification for small contests such as the ELE 3min membership entries?
Always a pleasure.
August 17th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
