Oh my gosh, I would SO love that.  But...I live too far away. 🙁 (I'm in Minnesota right now.) 🙂

I've been dying to find some Dr Horrible sheet music, in order to do some Mario Paint Compositions of a few specific pieces from the soundtrack.

The two I'd love to see are On The Rise, and especially The Finale.  I'm definitely keeping an eye on the page for any updates, so please keep us posted! =D

Well, On The Rise is up now... where's that Mario Paint YouTube video? 😀

Hey Hwangman,

Haven't gotten there yet, it takes about a week to do one song depending on how complicated the song is and how busy my week is. I'll get to it eventually. However, if you're looking for just vocal lines and chords, I might be able to do it real quick for you– email me (http://moses.leifam.com/drhorrible.html and my address is at the bottom).

I came across your sheet music yesterday, and I've been learning the piano version of On the Rise. Much thanks for putting this together. I do indeed think it's a hell of a piece to sight read (I tried singing one of the parts at the same time and my brain promptly shut down). I don't have anything to make a video with, but I'll be sure to post a recording when I've got it down. I think it would be a little easier to read in 4/4 with triplets where needed, but I'm not complaining. It's a fantastic arrangement. Very well done!

On an unrelated note, I was looking on on your site and Rilian's Search caught my eye (heh, I play both of the instruments used). It's gorgeous.

Hi Cyrne,

Glad you're making headway on it... it took me a while before I had my hands doing what they were supposed to (and I'm not a real pianist, I can't play it at full speed even now).

I did consider 4/4 or 6/4, but then with the sheer number of 3 against 2 rhythms and the ambiguity between it being in 4 and 6 made me go in favor of 12/8. It takes a little while to get used to dotted quarter  and normal quarter being different rhythms but once that's over with it's not too hard to read.

I really would love to hear the recording once you make it.

Thank you for your kind words about the oboe piece. I was an oboist too in a previous life...

My Freeze Ray (Laundry Day) is now up in sheet music form (full score and piano/guitar/vocal reduction), plus computer track (synth vocal) and karaoke track.

Perfect Story full score is next, but I am taking requests.

And here I am again. I'm not a particularly amazing singer, but I didn't think the piano part was solid enough to go on its own. If anybody would like to do a proper duet with me,  give me a heads up and I'll send you a less compressed version with one of the voices removed or something. I think I look a bit silly singing with myself!

Wow, Cyrne. That was all sorts of awesome. You sound great-- both your playing and singing. I don't think it sounds silly. It works. In a weird breeches role kind of way (-: I only have a digital piano, and as I mentioned, my piano skills are terrible, so it's so refreshing and great to hear a real pianist with a real piano. It really sounds good, better than I could have ever imagined. You've really captured the spirit of the original song and your piano playing is very expressive. You've really got the flow and the momentum going.

Would you believe I don't have any recording equipment? I used to live close to my parents and my dad is a sound engineer so he had everything I needed. Now that I'm on the west coast, no such luck.

I have some suggestions for you. As far as singing, don't be afraid of rests. As long as you don't descrescendo at the end of the note (for example downbeat bar 5) you won't lose the flow of the line. In fact, it may help to think about crescendoing into the rest. The cutoffs are there for a reason-- so you can breathe and maintain your support!

As far as the piano part, I noticed that your rhythm is fine when you have the triplets to ground you. But the parts without them are a little unstable. Sounds like you're having trouble with the RH rhythm in mm. 25-28 in particular. Two suggestions for that particular case. First, notice that the quarter note rhythm is the same as in the previous bar (m. 24), so if you think about that bar as a long pickup to the first half of m. 25 the rhythm should be a bit easier to get since it just continues in quarters.

Second, try playing the entire passage starting in m. 24 slowly but in all eighth notes. So basically, play two eighths for each quarter and three for each dotted quarter. (Make the dotted whole note a quarter note for this exercise since that's how in practice it will be played, anyway.) Start with just doing the RH that way, and then add in the LH also in all eighths. After you've got that down you can play LH with the actual rhythm and RH still in all 8ths, then gradually start playing the real rhythm in both hands.

Whew! The teacher in me came out a little there! (-:

Before I forget: m. 75: last three LH notes are Gs not F-sharps-- easy to miss.

I'd love to chat with you over IM about it and about your experience learning it. My information's at the bottom of the page with the music.

Again, wow! It's lovely. Thanks for sharing with us!

I'd love to hear your \"Freeze Ray.\" That piano part is several orders easier than On The Rise, so you should have zero trouble, and the vocal part is basically in your range (most of the song is middle line B and below except for the bridge which has one each of D and E-flat).

I uploaded a new mp3 mix of Freeze Ray to bring out the vocal part, and added karaoke tracks with one vocal muted instead of both for On The Rise, so you can now sing either Penny or Billy while the computer sings the other. Same link.

Thank you for the sheet music! Please keep up the good work.

At the moment I'm working on Freeze Ray (piano) and I'm really looking forward to the other tracks.

I really appreciate your work.

Yes, unless you count Perfect Story / So They Say which has the three main characters as well as a bunch of other minor characters.

BTW, I'm working on the Perfect Story score (and karaoke track) now. It should be done by this coming weekend. Also Brand New Day is in progress.

With the release of the soundtrack, my job is going to be about 10 times easier. It's absolutely crystal clear. Transcriptions should come faster now. Kudos to the engineers, wonderful job!

Go buy it!
