Who else LOVED it? I'm not sure what my favorite song is, but they were all cool. Now I want them to release THIS on CD.

It comes off as some of these were thrown together a little more quickly, but hey, as a fan of Broadway musicals - it's all pretty much better than most scores from Broadway shows in recent years, IMHO.

My favorite right now is “Neil's Turn” (love the nod to Gypsy here, I assume it to be intentional anyway - the song is very Sondheim-ish with its changes in timing and structure in general.) My other 2 favorites are “(Nobody Wants To Be) Moist”, and “$10 Solo”. Honorable mentions go to Felicia's song and Maurissa's. Though I'm sure in time to come I'll be loving other songs as the same thing happened with the original movie.

I'm a big fan of classic musicals but am still trying to warm up to Sondheim.  I only became familiar with some of “Gypsy!” in recent years and so I got the reference.  In fact, if I'd been transcribing the songs before I'd heard “Rose's Turn”, I wouldn't have guessed at the song's title that way.  Probably would have guessed some other name for it.

Still don't know what the official titles of the songs will turn out to be, but that's one of the ones I'm more sure of.

As for being \"thrown together\", while I don't think they had as much time for songwriting as they did for the main event, it's not a last minute thing, either.  I initially made the mistake of thinking that the sung commentary would not correspond to what's going on on-screen.  I've watched it in bits and pieces since my initial viewing and remain astounded at the timing of some of the lines, particularly in \"Better Than Neil\".  I cannot imagine the amount of planning and editing that had to go on to make sure that all the song tempi and the spoken interludes would land the cues in the right place.  If they'd not cared about having the songs line up with anything on screen, they would have had more lyrical freedom.

Oh I completely agree. I wasn't implying it was thrown together in that way. I just mean that it seems that the music itself wasn't as inspired since it wasn't involved in a plot. You know? And Joss knows that the best way to compose a musical is to use the story to inspire. I mean, there are still moods created but nothing too deep.

As for warming up to Sondheim, understandable. Glad you're atleast giving him a chance! For me, I feel like I \"get\" Sondheim better than anything else. The songs stay with me like radio pop hits stay with...well, radio listeners/pop fans. I honestly recall more about Sondheim pieces than a song I hear on the radio [when I happen to hear something on the radio].

Ooh, excuse me while I go and listen to \"Neil's Turn\" which is about to start! I also hear a bit of Jason Robert Brown in this song as well at times...

I've been transcribing them as quick as my brains and hands will allow me and posting them on my blog. (Tiny URL so it won't break, but it goes to MySpace.  Yes, I know.  I hate MySpace, too.)

Wow, I would never have guessed that NF said “Purell” - what does that even mean?

Oh, and a quick correction. In Penny's song, it should be

“And Brand New Day - Neil,

That intro's unreal”

(it's one of my fave bits)

Thanks for the correction, I'll put that in.  I knew I didn't have it right but that was the closest I could hear...

It took several listens to make the educated guess \"Purell\".  I knew it was likely to be some remedy for smelling bad because that's what the situation called for.  Purell is a brand of hand sanitizers, soaps, etc.  http://www.brands2liveby.com/b.....spx?id=310

I have to look at \"Commentary\" again, after I do my semi-mandatory viewings of the usual Christmas specials. I thought only \"Better than Neil\" synched up to the musical. If \"Commentary\" was made to be parallel to DH, then we have to be even more impressed by this DVD.

They have to release the soundtrack to this, at least on iTunes. (Please, please, please, please, please...) It's too good for them not to.

I think my favorites are $10 solo, Ninja Ropes (beautiful harmonies), and Neil's Song, the part where he is singing about the chords is fantastic.

\"$10 Solo\" for the win.  It's an instant hit.  I love her voice.

omg, I loved the whole thing but “Better Than Neil” and \"$10.00 Solo\" are by far my favorites, even though I may be a bit bias, because I LOVE Nathan Fillion!!! I LOVE NPH too, though.

I'm thrilled with both the regular commentary and commentary: the musical. I'm also desperate for the lyrics to all the new songs I must teach myself especially nathan's 'Better than Neil' song and Stacy's '10 Dollar Solo'.

Joss is my master now.

I would very much enjoy an official soundtrack, even if only an iTunes release.

I'd pay money for a cd that had both the original soundtrack and the commentary soundtrack together. they could do it like the dvd, an Amazon on demand.

Joss?

No love for Nobody's Asian?  I looooove that song.  (Except I'm not Asian, which makes me feel awkward....)

Just a quick bit of help on the lyrics. In Felicia's song about The Art, you have the line \"The wheel---- on auto (?)\".

I feel pretty confident she's saying \"The weird beard on Otto\". The credits list one Otto Penzato as the driver (of the courier van?). And the van driver did have a strange beard.

Excellent!  That sounds quite plausible!  I'll edit. Thanks!

Hi all 🙂

I'm a developer of the Ninja Ropes game.

Love the musical and the commentary too. My favourite song (no surprise) is \"Ninja Ropes\". An absolute masterpiece! 🙂

I bet you never in your wildest dreams thought you'd hear such a beautiful song about your game on a bestseller DVD!

Yeah, I was completely shocked when heard about that first time. I am a Firefly fan, you know?

Never expected that my little game went down in history *such* way 🙂
