I think that Dr. Horrible would try to bring Penny back, he loved her and I am sure he would use all his powers towards that end.  Of course, Joss being Joss, and Horrible being who he is the plan would have to go all wrong..

What I think would fit with the personality and sense of good and bad in each is if the second three acts is Horrible trying to bring Penny back, blogging about the advances in his inventions that will take him there, having a test-run with a rodent or such that works perfectly, but as he is finally bringing Penny back, Captain Hammer swoops in to save the day and stop the evil experiment which causes everything to go horribly (sorry about the pun) wrong.  Penny will be \"back\" but damaged/deformed/monsterous/beyond evil etc...

This would fit with with Horrible's attempt to steal the stuff for his freeze ray (Hammer caused the Van malfunction that nearly killed Penny by trying to be a \"hero\"and Horrible really saved the day by stopping the van) and the malfunction that caused Penny's death in the first place (Hammer was the real \"murderer\" of Penny by first breaking the death ray then firing it at Horrible).  So Horrible tries to set things right by bringing Penny back, but Hammer screws it up \"saving the day\" leaving things worse than they were before and Horrible taking the fall for all the badness.

Well...you certainly see things differently. I don't find Hammer to be the real 'murderer', he's a douche but come on, and I don't recall him breaking the death ray. Didn't it break when Horrible hit the floor? Hammer was simply not careful, he didn't notice the crack, but the death occurs because of Horrible. And I believe the whole point to this story was that Horrible was more concerned with getting into the EloE rather than getting to know Penny and talk to her. [Not to mention, he liked her before even conversing with her.] And to me, the point where this was suppose to be officially evident was \"I'm 2 weeks away from a real audible connection, I just---oh my God!\" They then discuss the letter from Bad Horse.. Moist inquires \"Are you sure you want to--\" And well, Horrible does! Penny's fate was sealed from the very beginning. I don't really think it's \"a Joss thing\". Unless by that you mean it being a logical decision in the basic format of storytelling. Especially of a comic, as this was an origin tale, it's just what it is. Hammer and Horrible both wanted Penny for selfish reasons, and Penny too had a flaw of being blinded by seeing the kindness of everyone even if those aren't their intentions (on the surface or under a layer). Maybe Billy is/was a nice guy, but he wasn't doing particularly nice things. Hi, song about killing Hammer! Actually, you can mirror this to Sweeney Todd (musical version), or rather Greek Tragedies altogether as the story of Sweeney does just that.

What I am personally looking forward to in future installments is the Evil League of Evil. The Doc got in and there he stays. \"You've saddled up, there's no recourse.\" If Penny comes into it then okay, I won't be opposed to it. That happens in these stories, but I don't know - it would really have to come from somehwere and serve a purpose.

What I mean by \"Joss being Joss\" is look at Buffy, for example.  Its part of the 'dead stay dead' and if you try to bring them back (like Buffy did her mom, and her friends later did her) that it is not a nice clean cozy picture.  I just meant that if Penny was brought back, it wouldn't be pretty.

I do agree that neither guy was really stellar from actually getting to know the real Penny, but Horrible did at least seem to want to know her.  Granted, they both were 'fake' with her, but everyone tries to put their best face forward when they are getting to know someone and hide their faults.  And in reality, most of us are atrracted to someone before we talk to them and know who they really are, we just keep after them once we do talk to them if they are great and say 'never-mind' if they are a douche-bag.  And we do all make choices, personal versus professional, in our life that have repurcussions.  With Horrible, he couldn't pursue his evil dream and get the girl - he realized that early \"a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.\"  But, his feelings for her and Hammer's manipulation was what finally pushed him into the more evil contemplation of murder - ah, jealousy *sigh*

As for the \"murder\" of Penny, I really just meant that I think in the end Hammer was more responsible for Penny's death than Billy (again in his mind saving the day).  Billy obviously was having second thoughts about the actual \"killing\" part - breaking into song rather than just killing Hammer once he was frozen, being glad Penny wasn't there to see, etc...  Hammer had no qualms whatsoever pulling the deathray trigger on Horrible without hesitation, he had no qualms about killing. And if you look at all the other times they had battled, Hammer easily could have overcome Horrible with regular strength and non-lethal means - no need for killing.  I'm not saying Horrible was \"good,\" just that Hammer wasn't either.

Here's my guess... Penny's death pushes Billy from the somewhat idealistic fellow who wants to change the world to his own personal belief system (anarchy that I run), to a truly ruthless supervillain. He lashes out at everyone and everything, destroying all that is good because Penny was good, and Billy was in his heart. By destroying good, he destroys his last vestiges of contact with his former life. He rises to incredible power and does, indeed get \"everything he ever.\" But if Penny is revealed to be alive somehow, or even he thinks she might be, he'll be stuck in a vicious cycle that its' too late to break out of.

i was reading through a few of these and it is intriguing, but i think joss and his brothers will probably come up with something completey different to whatever we could. but anyway, ill give it a go.

i'm hoping that penny would come back, but we would find out that she really has an evil side herself, which she is ashamed of and so tries to make up for it by being the good, homeless person helping girl that she is. She was really after hammer herself, due to her evil side wanting to kill him. However Dr Horrible turned up at the end of Act III and caught her offguard, so she hid behind the chair and knew it was billy straight away.

when billy/horrible comes to her after she is injured, the good penny tells him that captain hammer will save them as she knows that billy has been lost inside dr horrible. she is wheeled away and healed, and comes back in Act IV as a rival to Dr Horrible. the two have to face off at some point, wrestling with their better side's love for each other but unable to break from the evil side's hatred and rivalry when finally, captain hammer returns and somehow manages to save billy and penny (whether it is on purpose or just because he was at the right place at the right time) completing penny's Act III prediction.

but thats probably not going to happen 😛

Hmmm I personally think that whatever they do will be good that is my prediction that I don't think will be argued much.

However someone mentioned brothers and I have a theory on this. Maybe not brothers exactly because I know for myself something similar. I had a best friend who was my next door neighboor and we were friends for years. She always got me into trouble and our parents were friends. She used me and abused me not being a true friend. I had many dreams where I was locked away with her by some unknown seen enemy and I escaped. The weak pathetic me who was not all that smart but somehow escaped fate. Only now do I realize that it wasn't so far off. We went to the same high school and everything. Shortly after are friendship ended *insert evil smirk here* I became friends with the girl that was the object of what my so called best friend hated. To this day I am still best friends with the other girl. She rarely is out with friends especially now that she got a baby with her boyfriend. I truly think that fate even in the real world does throw a Dr. Horrible out there. I was weak minded and pathetic a typical wimp. Yet unlike her I still have a good friend and I haven't gotten myself in a bad situation like she did.I think something like this is brewing between theese two and I would like to see it.

As is clear in Hammer's comic he has an extreme dislike for those with science and math skills might I suggest this.

Hammer and Horrible used to be friends really good friends. However Dr. Horrible is really really smart and well Hammer is not. So when it came time for the Science final Hammer was lost misebrelly. Billy willingly said he would study with him but Hammer only cared about weight lifting. He neglected his studies and then came time for the final Billy was well prepared. He aced the exam because he studied but so did Hammer because *gasps* he cheated off of Billy's paper. When questioned Billy tells the truth that he studied even tells them to give him a test of random questions right there. Sure enough they do and he is telling the truth. Hammer gets a F and everyone now can see the rift forming. From then on they are mortal enemies and Hammer makes Billy's life hell. They get into high school and Billy is bullied by Hammer everyday who is the hero of the wrestling team. Eventually Billy can't take it anymore and adopts the Dr. Horrible Persona. He then starts coming with ways to protect himself and get even with Hammer. Such as the Muscle Reducer ray in Moist Comics or whatever it was called. He then starts his being bad to be good transition. He meets Moist and like I mentioned for me gets a true long time friend.

That is just what I see as a friendship/ brotherly type scenerio however I do have another idea about brothers but don't want to bore you with it.

So I am kindof adding onto a few.

I think that moist was talking to hourglass, and she had a vision of penny dying. Moist ran to the assembly, and after slipping a few times, froze Penny. After pulling a few succeful heists, moist tells Dr. Horrible that penny hasn't died yet. They both run to her grave and dig her up. dr. horrible runs to his lab and heals her. may b adds new organs, pumps electricity, etc.. bad horse knows of his recent success, and decides to keep horrible in the ele, even with penny alive, but some of the higher up members are mad about that and assasinate bad horse, taking over and throwing horrible out of the ele.

I liked Jason's version, but I don't think it really has the emotional impact of the first series.

Here's my idea: Penny gets brought back to life with science/magic/whatever, but she gets brought back evil.  Some other people have suggested this, but the part that makes my theory original comes later.

Anyway, so Penny is now evil.  Think Winnifred/Illyria from the Angel series, but actively evil and not just power-mad.  She becomes a much eviller supervillain than Dr. Horrible.

So, Dr. Horrible finally gets Penny, but the problem is Penny is now way too evil for Dr. Horrible.  She wants to kill people and he suggests a slight maiming would do just fine, etc.  He feels conflicted, because he finally got Penny, so he's happy, but its not the Penny he fell in love with.

Confronted with real evil, Dr. Horrible gradually makes the choice to be good instead and secretly becomes a super-hero.  Remember, part of his motivation for being a super-villain in the first place, besides the cash and power, was the social change, so the roots of his goodness are well established.  Eventually his heroness brings him into direct conflict with Evil-Penny.  In order to save the busload of orphans and nuns (or whatever) he is forced to kill Penny.  At this point we get the unmasking of Billy's superhero persona as he talks to the dying (again) Penny.

I think my version gives a satisfying emotional climax because it has Dr. Horrible being forced to actively make the choice to kill Penny.
