iTunes Update

There’s been some information floating around the internet that Dr Horrible will be pulled from iTunes on the 29th of July however we are assured that this is not correct.

In addition to remaining in the US & Canadian iTunes stores, Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will be available in iTunes stores in other countries soon.

Work is continuing on a CD of the soundtrack and the DVD release of Dr Horrible will also be available internationally. According to Joss Whedon in a recent Q&A at WashingtonPost.com it will be released as “soon as we can” and will definitely be available before Christmas.

We’ll keep you updated on the latest news.

“Soon as we can” is a dangerous phrase among the ravenous fans. ;)

Hello there! I loved Dr. Horrible! I’m having bad luck though: Wanted to buy a Captain Hammer t-shirt but it was sold out. =/ Tried to buy it from ITunes, but the Brazilian store (yes, I live in Brazil) doesn’t have it available.

Anyway, wanted to say that this site was kick ass during the whole process of waiting for Dr. Horrible’s and it is still being kick ass delivering us much wanted news on what’s going on with it. Thank you very much.

And if any of the crew of Mutant Enemy reads this, reveal a way for us, Brazilians, to buy Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog! And while you’re at it, think of way for us to acquire the soundtrack too. :)

Great job. Great movie. You guys (both from the site and Mutant Enemy) rock. ;D

“In addition to remaining in the US & Canadian iTunes stores, Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will be available in iTunes stores in other countries soon.” Does this mean on July 29 “Dr Horrible” will be available in other iTunes Stores like for example in the EU?

No, the date (29th) was something some journalist seems to have pulled out of the air or something, the date doesn’t mean anything.

BUT, date aside, some time “soon” yes, you can expect to see Dr Horrible in iTunes stores in Europe, Australia, and hopefully more. Keep an eye on this website, we’ll update when we can, and keep an eye on the Official site too because they may have something there when it goes live in other iTunes stores

I’m still hoping they’ll offer it for sale via direct download at some point. I would happily cough up the cash to be able to download an avi (or mov, mpg, wmv or whatever format) file now, even though I will also be buying the DVD when it comes out later.

I’m pretty sure there are a lot of other people who feel the same way.

cScott, exactly. I would probably pay up to $10 for such a download, but not on iTunes as it doesn’t work in Linux as I posted elsewhere. It’d be incredibly easy to setup as well; I offer my services if needed, my rates are pretty cheap and I have years of experience with PHP / MySQL and e-commerce setups.

Though my guess is that they have a deal with Apple preventing them from selling it in any other digital manner.

One would hope that the DVD comes with a digital copy. Ideally one that is compatible with the Zune. Still, if I can’t buy it on Zune, I’ll just be getting the DVD. Heck… I’d probably get the DVD anyway.

Fantastic product, just disappointing that there are obstacles stopping some of us from sharing in the whole Dr Horrible experience. I’d pay to download the video’s, soundtracks etc, but will have to wait here in Oz. I think the fan t-shirts should have stuff like ‘These are not the Hammer…’, ‘We do the wierd stuff..’ I’m sure there would be others that everyone a fan of the show would identify with.

Can’t wait for the Australian iTunes release! Do you have any idea when it’ll be?

I made the mistake of buying Dr. Horrible through iTunes. It was the first purchase I’ve ever made through them, and I never really understood before how restrictive and un-cool DRM is. I have an awesome TV and sound system - too bad!

I really, really liked this show. It was awesome. But it’s not so awesome that I’m willing to pay any more money for the privilege of only watching it on my laptop. I won’t make the mistake again of paying for DRM laden crap.

“Work is continuing on a CD of the soundtrack…”

Is this for sure? Like, for Joss-sure? I will never use iTunes because I don’t want/need an iPod, and Apple’s characteristic proprietary smugness will never cease to drive me away (somehow my computer still has an Apple Installer program despite my efforts to uninstall and scrub Quicktime from the hard drive). That being long-windedly said, I will pay hand ovre fist to own a CD of the soundtrack that I can do with as I please (including copying the songs for my own use onto multiple backups and mp3 players, NOT including uploading onto torrents. Please, someone confirm a CD release!

Add me to the “waiting for a Zune version”, “won’t touch iTunes if you paid me” but “I’ll definitely buy the DVD regardless!”

Seriously, what the heck is with all this iTunes only crap?

    DingoBoi Says:

Add me to the list of those disappointed that the only legal download of Dr. Horrible is thru iTunes. Where’s the love for us Zune users? Or people who just want to play it on their PC?

I know iTunes is the 800 pound gorilla, but if nobody ever catered to anyone but the 800 pound gorilla, none of Joss’s material would ever appear anywhere.

    ZUNE Store, please!!!

Wow… Did this site attract only people who hate apple/ipods?

I’m just thankful something decent came out of the writer’s strike - who cares what medium it’s on; if you like it, buy it.

    Dylan Says:

Admittedly, I’m a huge fan of everyone involved. I watched Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Serenity, which covers the writers, and Nathan. I watched Doogie Howser when I was a kid, and own both seasons of How I Met Your Mother, and I’ve seen Neil in Cabaret (he was incredible!)

I’m also an avid fan of The Guild (admittedly after I saw Dr. Horrible, but I still enjoy it greatly.)

I’m definitely awaiting the releases of the CD and DVD for this (as well as the talked about Act 4) at the edge of my seat. Can there be any more clarity in the release dates other than “Before Christmas?” Or perhaps a pre-order option?

WhoA, lots of anti-Mac / iPod people out there, to which I comfortingly reply HAHAHahahAHAhAHAhAHAH!!! (That was my Dr. Horrible laugh, what’d'ya think??)

LOVED the show, saw it last night on a friend’s iPod and if it was available I’d buy & download it now, that I also may hand over the keys to a shiny new Australia. LOL

    Joss is sooooo the MAN.
    Looking forward to the release.

    :)
