It seems through the whole Doctor Horribe's Song, DH is getting it all backwards:

“Hammer meet nail”. The nail doesn't defeat the hammer. They are also meant to work together and not against each other.

A society that has already slipped causes rioting and not rioting causing a society to slip.

The people didn't go there for a slaughter. Unlike screaming sheep, there's nothing to tell the people what's about to happen.

Lemmings don't drown themselves (and the urban legend was that they did only when overpopulated). In the only footage shown (from Disney), they were coaxed into the water and not simply led to the water. There is no mass-suicide. Migration? Yes. Suicide. No.

“No one condemning you”? After CH killed Penny, they condemned DH. Actually, they judged DH throughout the whole DH song, cowering. He even contradicts himself later with “you're beginning to fear me like cavemen fear thunder.” When thunder wasn't understood, it was pre-judged to be worthy of fear.

He said that CH's disguise was slipping when he, DH, was really enforcing the hero vs. villain stigma on CH vs. DH. CH's disguise didn't slip until he got hurt.

“Anarchy that I run.” Nobody runs anarchy.

“And social change” after describing how society is a mess and saying that he's going to upset the stability. That's not a change.

“This world is going to burn!” Well, what the heck would you do that fer? Ruling over a toasted, dead planet doesn't sound like fun to me.

The only thing he got remotely correct was: “I still have to wonder can you really hear me.” Well, duh. Of course not when you're speaking in backwards (back-worded) riddles, you goof!

He's no more good with words as DH than he was as Billy.

The gamut determines the acceptible range of conditions. It’s Genius’ Awesome Sauce in an 8oz. glass bottle with a cork stopper.

I hate to break it to you but he wasn't speaking back-worded at all.

Take “Hammer meet nail” true the hammer pounds the nail down. However the nail is hard headed and can only go so far. He was speaking of himself after all the years of Captain Hammer banging him around he went as far as he will go now he can't be pushed around any more. Get it now.

A society doesn't slip before the rioting ever. Think about it if you were locked away with someone holding a gun to say your mom's head then you would riot first right. Then after he got control again you would realize there is no hope so its slipping away.

I don't think he was speaking that they knew that Captain Hammer would die he was just saying that he is amazed at how people would show up to see Captain Hammer.

He wasn't saying that lemmings killed themselves he was just saying that they are led to water. Could be for migration or to drink. You looked a little to deep into that line I think.

He wasn't speaking of him condemning them again goes with the part about how they would go to watch Captain Hammer. If you were in that scene and this scene were real life would you go because you wanted to. Not because you were forced to go because of someone else.

As far as the “Cavemen fear thunder I still have to wonder can you really hear me.” like you said it was pre-judged by cavemen to be feared. Are they really scared of him or are they just pretending it. That's what he is asking.

I am The Green Dragon I leave no trail behind. I go about my evil deeds without stressingg my mind. No one has ever caught up to me as they say. Then again people fear me more and more each day.

I think the OP is right about the hammer meet nail and the anarchy that I run comments, Dr Horrible likes to think he's evil but he really isn't and these words reflect that.  He doesn't really want anarchy - he just wants a better world and thinks he knows what will make it better.

I don't know guys.  I think you're streaching it all a bit too far.  Slipping has always been one of my favorite songs (along with Brand New Day) mainly because of the rhythmic lines and delicate rhymes that DO make sense.  The overall point of song (in my humble opinon) is that Billy is trying to talk himself into his final act - killing Capt. Hammer, so he's going over all the reasons in his mind why he is justified in his mission - really just to convince himself, which he obviously didn't fully accomplish because he hesitates to pull the trigger…  I actually have always loved the lyrics to that song.
