This should put an end to this debate. Wink

Already did this, and of course it's "way" and the end of his song.

The subtitles for I+II+III together say "Why?". Seems the debate ain't over.

IMHO, it's part of the conversation that's following ("Why, a death ray! Looks like Dr. Horrible is moving up.") and not a complete continuation of the previous song despite the pitch matching. Let's not forget that, between his last word of the previous song and getting thawed, he punched Dr. H, jumped off the stage, picked up the broken ray gun and stepped on Dr. H before he sang the word.

Dude… Dr. Horrible on Twitter (Jed) has already stated that the subtitles have not been completely fixed yet. This is one of the things that hasn't been fixed. A subtitle made up by a Hulu employee that has never seen the script does not a debate make. Trust me, (1) I'm a music major, and (2) I have ears… that clip speaks for itself. It's not about the "pitch matching." It's a one-billion-jazillion percent fact that the song was recorded all as one with the "waaaaaay" on the end and then cut into two parts in the editing. Don't just listen to the vocal, listen to the instruments.

Plus, uhh, that's the whole joke… Captain Hammer gets unfroze and finishes his song…

Argue all you want with whatever credentials you have, but it's still open for discussion regardless. I'm willing to bet you're right, but I'm not willing to concede until they say what's right and what the joke really is. :P

It's very clearly "waaaaaaaaaaaaay".

However, I have to admit that when I slowed that last bit down, it did start to sound like "whyyyyyyyyyy". I'm pretty sure this is… compensation, for lack of a better term (it's a long note, from what I gather, NF has no vocal training, and I once sang a very very long "baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack" as "baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-*partial breath*-haaaaaaaaaaaaack"), and partially the "accent" of the character too — what NF is doing to his voice to make himself sound suave and fuller.

Anyway, back on topic, this is what I named all the tracks I split up today:

Bolded are the song names, so those are my votes. ;)

Overture (0:06)
Vlog #1 (3:38)
My Freeze Ray (1:45)
Moist Mail (0:56)
Signed, Bad Horse (0:32)
The League is Watching (0:26)
A Caring Hand (0:28)
The Wonderflonium Heist (3:26)
A Man's Gotta Do (What a Man's Gotta Do) (1:12)
Lacy, Wafting Curtains (0:15)
A Man's Gotta Do (Reprise) (1:00)
Overture #2 (0:11)
On the Rise (2:45)
Frozen Yogurt (1:39)
Vlog #2 (0:52)
Vlog #3 (0:34)
Signed, Bad Horse (Reprise)
The Moral Dilemma
'I meant Gandhi.'
Story of a Girl (Penny's Song)
Billy, meet Captain Hammer

Well, now that we finally have the real titles, let's see how I did! (real titles in bold)

My Freeze Ray - My Freeze Ray

Bad Horse – Bad Horse Chorus

Lend a Hand – Caring Hands

A Man's Gotta Do – A Man's Gotta Do

On the Rise – My Eyes

Bad Horse (Reprise) -Bad Horse Chorus (Reprise)

Penny's Song – Penny's Song

Brand New Day – Brand New Day

The Perfect Story – So They Say

Everyone's a Hero (In Their Own Way) – Everyone's a Hero

Slipping – Slipping

Everything You Ever – Everything You Ever

So, that's 6 exactly right, including Penny's Song, which just amazes me! I'm also glad I got Everything You Ever Laughing I really can't believe On the Rise is actually called My Eyes though… On the Rise just seems like such a better title. At any rate, the soundtrack is awesome. A lot of little differences and the the quality is superb!

Now that they've said it's "way", I'll concede that I was wrong. (I figured I was. Still sounds like "why".)

I felt the same way, until I gave it a little thought and came up with this: that song is about two very differant, but intertwined characters' very differant perspective on things. About how each character saw things through their eyes.

Horrible: How the world's filled with filth and lies….

Penny: How the world's finally turning wise…

..and so on. The song's all about how the same things can look totally differant, depending on perspective. Hence: My EyesLaughing

I understand where you are coming from with the whole perspective thingy, and I'm sure that's what Joss was thinking when he wrote it too, but I have to agree with ArsNovaChris…. "On the Rise" just sounds better. It works on a visceral level; when you hear "On the Rise", it's emotionally similar to the feeling you (or at least I) get when the song is playing, while "My Eyes" sounds a lot more cerebral and less passionate. To me at least.

Yeah, I totally get that. It is a lackluster sounding title comapred to "On the Rise". I watched the thing again this morning, and listening to "My Eyes" it occured to me that another good title would have been "Everybody's Heart". Not as visceral as "On the Rise" or as cerebral as "My Eyes", I think it works a little on both levels. And its the only other line they both come together on.

Wow so many interesting ideas for the songs to bad I didn't get here till after they posted the real titles. XD

I am The Green Dragon I leave no trail behind. I go about my evil deeds without stressing my mind. No one has ever caught up to me as they say. Then again people fear me more and more each day.

I'm not sure if we've established the song names, so I'll take the liberty to post them:

(in order of appearance)

Horrible Theme, 9 sec, plays during the credits for acts 1/2/3

My Freeze Ray, 1 min 54 sec, laundry song. Why does everyone call this Laundry Day? I know that's the first line and the song is sung in a laundromat, but it's about his freeze ray!

Bad Horse Chorus, 35 sec, sung while DH opens his letter from Bad Horse

Caring Hands, 36 sec, sung while Penny hands out flyers

A Man's Gotta Do, 2 min 20 sec, introduces Captain Hammer, continues until the end of Act 1

My Eyes, 2 min 47 sec, opening for Act 2. I can see why this is titled My Eyes, as both DH and Penny sing multiple times "I cannot believe my eyes" and usually they sing it at the same time. The song is about life from their point of view.

Bad Horse Chorus (Reprise), 21 sec, sung after DH reveals that his freeze ray "needs work"

Penny's Song, 1 min 23 sec, sung in the laundromat after DH says, "Not to me." (continuing from Penny/DH's conversation: everything happens/ don't say for reasons/ no, just everything happens/ not to me

Brand New Day, 1 min 49 sec, MY FAVORITE!!!!!, sung after Captain Hammer tells DH that he's not the hammer, the hammer is his ***** and he and Penny leave, closing for Act 2

So They Say, 2 min 12 sec, opening for Act 3

Everyone's A Hero, 2 min 45 sec, Captain Hammer's big speech after he says he doesn't need "tiny cue cards"

Slipping, 2 min 5 sec, sung after DH zaps Captain Hammer with his Freeze Ray

Everything You Ever, 3 min 35 sec, longest song, sung when Penny is injured by the death ray's explosion

Horrible Credits, 2 min 12 sec, played while credits roll

14 songs total. I don't know the songs for Commentary! The Musical
