"your rioting, society is"
"your rioting" and "society" are reversed notes with "your" and "-ty" being 1/2 step off of each other with the note for "-ty" correcting itself on "is" as a 'heh, let's just throw that in, too' hanging on the off-beat. It's Genius' Awesome Sauce in an 8oz. glass bottle with a cork stopper.
Just a little bit of chaos when describing chaos… a little topsy-turvy for combining the words"rioting" and "society" with the disonance on "society" and not "rioting". (Always with the irony.)
Though "to realize your disguise is" is the same thing, it's missing that one little note between "-ize" and "your" that "so-" is in "society". It makes all the difference. If they had made it "-ize that" ("to realize that your disguise is"), then it would have been a imperfect mirror like "your rioting society". Without it, the reverse connection cannot be made. That's not even mentioning the disonance being on "disguise" that we already know is perverse anyway. There's no irony there.
Did I put too much thought into this?
"It's Genius' Awesome Sauce in an 8oz. glass bottle with a cork stopper," shall become my battle cry henceforth.

Heh. Yeah. Lot of thought. I've always loved music, but sucked at theory, so I noticed how those lines stood out, just couldn't put into words the "why" like you have.
Love the battlecry. Pure gold.

"Anarchy, that I run!"
"I wonder what you're captain of." (Funnier in light of "These are not the hammer…")

Billy's entire second verse of On The Rise, pretty much, is my favorite line. The way that "there's a darkness everywhere and Penny doesn't seem to care that soon the darkening is all that will remain" runs together is amazing – it really brings home how urgent he thinks it is, and how crazy it's making him, as a musical line…
Honestly, the whole thing is great.
Also, "Four sweater vests!" is right up there with the ol' "They got the mustard out".

Heh. I thought he'd be wearing a sweater vest for the statue unveiling. Oh well. When it comes to "So They Say", I agree that the Groupies steal the song, but I think it's with "We do the wierd stuff!" That's just me.

I have no memory of "theory" from… (let's see… how old am I now… 6… 5… 4… carry the 3… ) 29 years ago. (How many children did Beethoven have? I don't care!) I've been told I'm good at noticing little things, particularly noticing patterns… not always to the delight of those who don't want things noticed.
Still, I wouldn't have considered "got your mail" or "just need to rule it" to be 'lyrics' per se, but whatever works.

You certainly are good at recognizing patterns and your speculation and analysis is welcome here!
As for the other comments.. I'm not really trying to moderate this post.. Just enjoying the discussion. I do have to agree since this post lives in the "music" section we should try to stick to the music.
Now here's another one…
"We have a problem with her."

How can one forget: "Here I go: (mumbling)." Unfortunately, there no real way to type something so that it looks as exasperated as it sounded. Just imagine that you've just found your keys right where you left them after you turned the whole house upside down looking for them and, then, looked around to see that you have to spend the rest of the weekend to turn the house right side up instead of going to the party that required you to find your keys… that feeling while singing the word "mumbling".
No?

"Here lies everything, the world I wanted at my feet."
There's so many places where double meanings apply in that song, but thats the one that still gets me no matter how many times I hear it.

I love the way these words work with the music
"All the times that you beat me unconscious I’ll forgive
All the crimes incomplete, listen, honestly I’ll live"
And the line "We do the weird stuff" never fails to make me smile.
So Brilliant.

Old subject, I know. But I just watched Dr. Horrible for the first time yesterday.
My favorite line isn't really sung. It's: "Stop looking at her that way."
Oh and: "Balls."
I think Whedon likes that saying. I am still watching Angel for the first time (on season 4 now) and I believe it was Lorne who said, "Balls."

I LOVE the line, "Stop looking at her that way." It just shows how much he like, cares about Penny and how protective he is of her. I absolutely love it for no reason. It's probably my favorite out of the entire show.

My favorite lyrics are the intro into "Brand New Day" no matter what you say about patterns you got to admire NPH for Nailing it. Pun Intended. XD

I am The Green Dragon I leave no trail behind. I go about my evil deeds without stressing my mind. No one has ever caught up to me as they say. Then again people fear me more and more each day. |
