Hey guys, I'm not too sure this forum is still alive or not, seeing as Dr. Horrible has kinda passed by the mainstream attention span it enjoyed after its release and then big bang.

But the play (I consider it a play) had a huge effect on me. It was beautiful and only made my love for Joss grow 10x as strong. But thats besides the point.

I know some people might already have had this impression, but as Dr. Horrible is singing "Everything you Ever" and you see him in the party and happy and consumed with his new life and then finally joining the ELoE with his new suit and sinister look/voice, you see that last 2 seconds of his saying "A Thing" and he's infront of his computer at his blogging station in a seemingly depressed state.

My immediate and ongoing impression is that everything inbetween him carrying Penny's body to the stretcher and that last 2 seconds, was him imagining things in a depressed state of mind. Because of the huge emotional clash going on in his head "Victory and defeat/loss at the same time" he dreams up that perfect ending. Little details add to my theory, but nothing as substantial as those last telling 2 seconds and his voice. I know most people see the ending as him "making the transformation into fully Dr. Horrible", not my idea. My idea makes the ending much more depressing, but at the same time, I think its also much more satisfying, in a way.

Him not taking Penny's death and throwing it aside to give way to his evil shows that her death redeemed him in a way. In my mind, he really became "Horrible" when he turned his freeze ray into a death ray, and the final act would have been him killing Cpt Hammer. But his failure to do so and the horrifying reality of what he created and the consequences make he realize that it was his fault. I'm not saying he turns into a saint, but I think maybe he goes "I've been going around this the wrong way". Her death was in a way, sacrafice. It showed the world what Cpt. Hammer really was, and at the same time turned Billy away from a bad influence that was trying to make him kill. 

But yeah, any opinions are welcome, I know this is a bit cheesy but I really think Joss meant for the ending to be interpreted in multiple ways due to so much ambiguity and so many hidden meanings.
