Rather than derail other threads:
There's no rewind button to life (because there's no remote control — you either live life yourself or it doesn't get lived).
I see a lot of people asking for things to be changed or an extension to the story that ends it differently… most often with Penny resurfacing somehow. I believe that would cheapen (and dumb-down) the experience.
I would not like to see Penny return (though I'm watching Felicia Day in The Guild anxious to see what she does next, so I'm talking about the character, not the actor). Why? Because Death has been cheapened to us by the media. I'm frankly tired of being fed a fairy tale where a kiss brings the dead to life and love conquers all just by itself. If there's any continuation, it needs to be done with this weight on Billy's shoulders.
I would like to see the monster that is Dr. H defeated by Billy. Why? Because I know it can be done. It's not a matter of blind hope. However, I don't want a Spiderman/Venom scenario. I don't want a Vader/Luke scenario. It's a lonely road of intense pain and not just shedding some outer skin that redeems the person inside. Emotional scarring will result, and when the weather's just right, it'll always hurt.
Capt. H. could return or not. His part in it all was little more than a catalyst. Anything could take his place as the misplaced blame Billy holds, but something has to take the place of the blame, whether it's Capt. H. or something that Dr. H. associates with the same blame he held for Capt. H. If there's any redemption, it has to be done with this obstacle in Billy's way.
The biggest problem I see, though, is the catalyst to start the long road back. I don't think there is one. It's just something that begins or doesn't. There's always a catalyst to help you fall, but I don't think there's anything that helps you get up again. (People don't want to believe that and typical media doesn't play by those rules, but I'm fairly certain it's the Truth.)
Can Billy make that choice to return? I've seen it happen, but Billy is an individual. What applies to one type of person doesn't necessarily apply to other people of the same type.
I know it can be done, but does Mutant Enemy think Billy can do it? I'd like to see another episode to find out, win or lose.
