Hey everybody, I love the site and you've all been extremely helpful in the construction of my costume. I first found this site in my quest for the labcoat. Since it was so hard to find anything that looks close for a reasonable amount of money I thought I'd share how I got mine, and offer to help anyone who needed it.

So, do you want a perfect Dr. Horrible Coat? One that looks exactly the same as the good Doctor's? One that's as good as you can reasonably expect to find outside of finding the original prop and stealing it?

Well, I did. So I went to the younger sister of a friend of mine, who happens to be: 1.) a Dr. Horrible fan and 2.) an excellent costume creator (costume design is her major). She constructed, to my measurements, a perfect replica Doctor Horrible labcoat.

I'd like to share with you guys the results (mind you I haven't finished painting the goggles at this point and the boots and gloves are in the mail). But if you like them, she is both able and, if you'll make it worth her time, willing to create further Doctor Horrible Labcoats.

Without further shenanigans my costume thus far:

Doctor Horrible Overview (made to look far more snow-white than it actually is because of my turbo-flash):

Doctor Horrible Labcoat Back/Belt:

And for some detail, click here for a Doctor Horrible Collar Close Up so you can see how well she made it.

Here's a few of me actually in the coat, I'm wearing two long sleeved t-shirts under it, so it looks a bit more snug than it should be, but it actually fits quite nicely, I'm just too lazy to take more photos.

So, your thoughts?

- Reginald

P.S. I'd be glad to take a few more photos if you'd like to see specific things. And answer any questions about where/how I got it. Thanks, and I love you guys!

Exorbitant? Well the hardest part would probably be the shipping.

I've let her know though, and she'll be in touch. I'm just glad you like the coat. I'm taking more pictures soon. Best Halloween Costume ever.

As an aside, are there any Dr. Horribles in St. Louis? I was thinking we might all get together at a bar and take pictures. A Dr. Horrible Happy Hour?

That coat looks AWESOME!  I've been scouring both the internet and my local phone book so far, with absolutely no luck.

Too bad I don't know anyone who is a costume designer.  But when you say "make it worth her while", how much we talking here?

I would also be down for a commissioned Dr. H jacket!  And willing to pay some moolah.  I imagine I'm not the only one dressing up as our famed evil genius for Halloween.  If she can transmatter (in stable molecular form) by Halloween, I'd totally be down.

Please email me at jjraabe at mac dot com.

THANKS!!!

That looks stunning.  My girlfriend also enjoys making costumes and she's been puzzling over how to make this coat.  Could we get some pictures of how the front panel works?  Just a picture of the coat with the left side unbuttoned and held out so we can see both it and the right side that crosses under.

Thanks!

I cannot begin to tell you how interested I am! I've been looking everywhere for something even vaguely similar, to no avail. How could a coat this cool have gone out of style?

I'd be more than happy to pay for a coat and the shipping. Hopefully the price would be less than $100? I remember seeing that due to demand, the producers have started selling the coats at that price (Too rich for my blood). Let me know what I need to do! Your friend made the best looking replica I've seen so far!

My email is mrzillyhoo@yahoo.com. Please keep me posted!

"the producers"?  If by that you mean someone official, I don't believe anyhone is making an official product.

Sorry, I read it as the producers, but I guess it's an outside company, that specializes in custom tailored costumes. Irongate Gallery.

They happen to be out of stock at the moment (Big surprise), which I did not notice before, my apologies. But either way, I'd like one by Halloween if at all possible, and preferably for less than their price. I may resort to this if I decide it's not needed right away, but I'd like to hear more about this opportunity first! Smile

I won't chime in with any further commentary on how I want one of these and would pay at least part of my daughter's tuition money that I've started to get one. (Although I would).

But I will say that your friend did such an amazing job on that coat, that I am hard pressed to find how it differs from the one the good (er, I mean Evil) doctor wore in the series. Awesome job.

I think I may be literally turning green with envy over here. ;)

I would be very interested in buying a Dr. H coat like this.  I would need it by Halloween.  I live in Maryland.  Please email me at Steven.Lietuvnikas at gmail dot com with a price.  The coat really looks amazing.  She did a great job.

Wow,

I have to say we're both overwhelmed with all of your kindness. You guys are awesome. She is sure she can get one more done before Halloween, but after that it's extremely iffy.

Since so many of you want her services (and she has contacted a few of you who posted your email addresses) we need to know how serious you are about having one. It would be tragic to go through the process of making one to fit someone only to have them pull out at the last minute, denying everyone else a chance, and leaving her with a coat tailored to fit someone who was only messing around.

So if you're serious, send me/us a PM to let us know you are and make an offer.

Thanks guys.

KMarsh, sorry I lost your question amid the other ones.

The way she did the inner flap was very clever, and she could explain it better than I could, but when I'm back in St. Louis (I'm out of town until Wednesday) I'll take a few photos for you.

Wow!  That is amazing.  I go to college in St. Louis, and it sounds like that is where you are from.  Could I know a price range of what your friend might want?  I could seriously pick it up so there would be no shipping problems at all.  I would LOVE this before Halloween.  I understand if she's too busy, but I thought it might be more convenient if I'm in the area.  My email is el_noelker_636@hotmail.com.  I can't commit until I know a price for sure but I am EXTREMELY interested in this.  Thank you!

Reginald,

Thanks for all the pics.  Looks like your friend has got the design down pat.  I'm from St. Louis and would love to get together for a pic, but from all the responses here in the post, looks like your friend is going be busy till all least New Years.  I would be interested in commisioning her for a coat too, when she has time.

Shoot me an e-mail at sittons9090 -at- yahoo.com

I would also pay a lot of money for one of your coats. And if its a matter of money, I'll pay triple or quadruple if I could get it in a week or two, to be honest. Please contact me: Vinnymac@gmail.com :)

Hello again my fellow PhD's in Horribleness,

I wanted to let everyone know where things stand with frenzy of interest. We are both very honored, and very thankful for your support. We fully intend to make coats for whoever wants them. But due to crazy time restraints we only have enough time to make one before Halloween and get it shipped out.

"Could I know a price range of what your friend might want?" – Andy

We originally just wanted to show off the labcoat she made for me and see if maybe anyone would be interested in having her make another. We never thought of a set price. But most of the offers we've received are in the $190-$215 range. We're floored.

We are not greedy, but we don't have a way to decide who gets this coat and who has to wait on the next one. So ultimately it will probably be whoever makes the best offer. We are going to stop taking offers this Saturday. Then the construction will begin.

So if you'd like a Dr. Horrible Labcoat by Halloween, please an offer to my email (reginaldhornstein (at) gmail (dot) com) or send me a PM. Be sure to include height, pants size, and shirt size as a rough guidline for us, more detailed measurements will be needed if you're selected.

Thanks again everyone!

- Reginald

P.S. If you're OK with receiving one after Halloween, let us know.
