AS an avid prop builder, I'm thinking of making both of these. I'm trying to figure out what they used for both of these, or were they 100 percent custom?

I think the death ray was made from some kind of air soft gun. because I think I saw like a air tank in the back but I don't think I'm right.

I don't know what Sky_rider is going to say, cuz they're waiting for their post to be approved at this time, but someone said that the Death Ray was reconned from the Ariel episode of Firefly. From the screencaps at Leave Me The White, we get this image:

And look, another view of the same style of coat for Dr. Horrible!

Weird. That does look like the Stun Death Ray. Never noticed it before. Is it upside down, though?

The gamut determines the acceptible range of conditions. It's Genius' Awesome Sauce in an 8oz. glass bottle with a cork stopper.

Depends on your perspective. In relation to its original use in "Ariel," yes, Dr. Horrible holds the device upside-down.

That's what I thought! I KNEW IT.
I'm a big Firefly fan and I knew I'd seen it before. Thank God for screen caps.
I'm currently making some steampunk rayguns that light up and stuff.

The Death Ray is a prop from Firefly turned upside down. They were the Sonic Rifles that were used in the episode Ariel (As well as Dr Horrible's Coat which is a leftover as well)

I have been looking all over for anything like the death ray. Since I'm good at costumes and not props, any idea how I would start to build one for Halloween? That's the last piece of my costume.
I've looked at ray guns, water guns, water cannons.
HELP please!
Thanks!

Haha, that is awesome. Recycle, reduce, reuse and save some money!
I'll have to watch that episode tonight.

madrobot…Those are some wicked cool guns.
For the other people who are weapons challenged like me I found that the Nerf N-Strike Recon CS-6 isn't bad because it has a lot of different configurations. Its far from exact but makes a good prop. I spray painted mine and then pulled it appart and stuffed the barrel with little LED lights used to decorate Christmas villages.
Lighting gets a little tricky but the spray painting is easy.

I desperately needed a mini-freeze ray to complete my costume for halloween. But sadly no one here had any ideas of where to get one, so I decided I would have to make one on my own. Below is the end result. What does this mean for you? Well I had extra materials soooo….. I made a couple extra rather than waste the material. So if you need a freeze ray, it's your lucky day because I"m putting a couple up for sale tomorrow. Haven't seen these anywhere else so if you want one of the only couple out there head on over to ebay tomorrow. Freeze ray, tell your friends.

Wow, great work Velocity Boy. That's the best mini-freeze ray I've seen. Gorgeous construction.
Could you provide a link to the auction perhaps?
Thanks, and again, good work.

I had a little more free time and was able to finish putting together the rest of the spare material into 2 more finished models. They have been posted on ebay. If anyone is interested, I can still easily have them to you by halloween. Just search ebay for "dr horrible" or use the two links below.
Doctor Horrible Mini Freeze Ray, Arm Mounted #1
Doctor Horrible Mini Freeze Ray, Arm Mounted #2
Also just wanted to say thanks to everybody on this forum for the awesome ideas and tips on where to get the parts for the rest of the custome. I could not have put together my dr horrible outfit with out you!!!

Hey velocityboy, do you have any higher-res pics of what you did? I know you're still selling one more on ebay, but for those of us who are still endearing to dabble in the making of it on our own, a few pointers wouldn't go amiss Thanks!

Danil – Sorry, but like a good magician, I don't reveal the secret to my tricks… But I will say that it involved one of the same style of gloves, some screen shots of the 3rd act, the zoom function and about 3hrs of measuring my screen… Once you have the measurements, then add the right supplies, about 5hrs of construction and presto – Freeze Ray. But there is hope…
Due to the overwhelming response to these on ebay, I am in the process of wrapping up another batch which will go up for sale on ebay either tomorrow or tuesday. These will be THE LAST ONES FOR HALLOWEEN DELIVERY, though shipping will be higher this time around in order to ensure delivery time. These may also just be the last ones I make period, as my wife is starting to get jealous of "freeze ray time"
If anyone here is interested I'll post the link to the auction (which will be a buy it now with multiple available) once it is up.
Peace Out
but not, litterally peace…
