I will not rest until I have my own authentic evil doctor goggles. The PhD in horribleness will have to wait…I'm so close, I just know they're welding goggles, unless they were modified. Oh I'll find my pair…who's with me on the search! Cool

They've definitely been modified, but you should be able to kit-bash a pretty good replica with a little patience.

I noticed at the scene where the groupies are wearing Doctor gear that Steve and Maurissa are wearing goggles where the flip part is not as thick as the Doctor's. But the one Stacy is wearing looks like the original pair. Maybe modified, but then again, I just saw a low-res picture of these welding goggles on amazon and it's pretty close, even with the little plastic part between the eyes. Too bad it says it's not for sale…but it does say it's from Phillips Safety. Okay, I'm a little neurotic about this because I'm a chemist and I really like goggles…and horribleness…Tongue out

I actually have 10 pairs sitting in a box that I bought about a year ago to do steampunk modification on. They're really not that hard to find, they average $1-20 online and are easily found with google searches for 'welding goggles'.

I should throw mine up on eBay unmodified mwhahaa…

Okay, since I'm not evil, I'll even provide a link where you can get them super cheap.

$3.

The 10 I bought…I paid a buck something each for…so you can find them cheaper.

The outside is green plastic, so the Dr. Horrible ones are modified (looks like a quick spray of gold paint to me). The goggles themselves are of surprisingly decent quality.

The dark goggles are very difficult (to impossible) to see through, but they also flip up, revealing clear goggles underneath. They're really the coolest things out there to steampunk modify for steampunk goggles. The knobs on the sides…those are vents, to allow your face to stay cool.

I may be overstating the obvious, but don't use them for actual lab work. I had briefly considered it (for chem. lab work) but the green plastic sides def. wouldn't be good if you're working with strong acids or bases, and the limited visibility also not good. So I'm stuck with my dorky plexi-ones for my evil plans, I mean lab classes.

Here's a better picture of what they look like (unmodified) but you can find them EASILY under 5 bucks. IE don't buy from there. :)

Thanks for the help, but these are the ones I'm trying to find

Goggles on Amazon

You can see there are six vent holes, three on each side. The ones you showed me I've seen with the four vent holes, which can be easily modified to look like the ones the Doc has. Still, I can't help but figure these goggles are out there that look the closest with the least modification…of course it might just be more fun to mod them myself…

The ones I linked (2nd link) def. have six vent holes, it even says in the description they have six vent holes. So hope that helps.

Some (first link) do appear to only have four.

Here's the goggles I have:

Man, that show had such wonderful costume design. Giving Dr. Horrible the most kickass of costumes definately helped empathise with him even more. ^^ But even the casual costuming was wonderfully revealing about the characters. Did anyone else think "Snow White" when they saw Penny at the start of act 2?

I found the goggles! Well, I think I have, at least. The site doesn't say how much they are or whether or not they're available, but I have asked if I can get some, so am awaiting a response.

They seem to be the right shape and the strap is even the same colour (check ther end of Act III). The only thing that seems different is the colour, but a lick of paint should solve that.

Holy Snap!  We're gettin close!  Still, looking at the tshirt design on jinx.com, his goggles are definitely that silver/grayish color with some gold paint/spray paint splashed on there but it looks like the flip eye pieces are a combination of the goggles you showed put on top of the circle eyepieces that redfeather listed.  soooo cloooose…a little mix and match and viola!  Well, keep us updated on what they respond!Laughing

A much better picture of those goggles. I'm pretty sure these are THE goggles, Fibre Metal VG800-H5. Kind of expensive compared to the other cheap alternatives, but still awesome.

I have to buy goggles, gloves, and an apron for my chemistry lab class….do you think if I used Dr. Horrible as inspiration for my attire that would be acceptable? And mainly I'm talking about the goggles…are they functional for labs using chemicals?

I woudlnt' use them in lab, those are welding goggles so I'm assuming they're highly shielded and not very good for normal visibility, which is why you can flip them up to check your work.  The apron, if you can find it, would be okay though.  Those gloves are more for heavy duty chemical handling.  We used to use a thick black pair like the Doc's for a very basic mixture of KOH and EtOH for cleaning glass…stuff you don't want on your skin…

The Doctor's Gloves are Tillman welding gloves – not necessarily for chemicals, but definitely pretty thick.
