Sorry if this spoils anything for anyone, but I'd really like to dress as Penny with the death ray gun shrapnel sticking out of her stomach for Halloween!

Anyone have any ideas on how I could do this?

Also, in that scene, I'm having a hard time deciding what colour her shoes are.  I originally thought they were burgandy but now I'm thinking they might be brown or even black…

What do you guys think??

Hey!  Awesome idea.  I had a similar one… to be someone from a movie or something that came out this year… because it wont be as cool the next year after the hype dies a bit.  You know?  I'm actually going to give a shot at the girl from Cloverfield who explodes.

Anyway, that's an AWESOME idea.  And I'm a huge halloween nerd… I would suggest getting a scrap of something… not necessarilly metal… but maybe plastic or plexiglass or something…  anyway, find a way to attatch it to your outfit.  Or better yet, cut the outfit so that it'll actually look like it impaled you… and have it attached to your body with Spirit gum, or liquid latex, or whatever that kind of glue is they sell for prosthetics around halloween time.  Of course you'll need remover to go with it.

They also make some nice fake blood… or you can even make your own.  BUT if you want to do something that's not going to make a potential mess all over furniture and such, I'd suggest getting this stuff called gel blood.  What's unique about it is that it hardens and turns solid.  It actually comes solid and you have to heat it up…  anyway, it cools and harden… and then you can actually take it off and reheat it to put it back in the container and use it again, if you'd like.

Just some suggestions… not sure how practical they are…  but maybe look around at a halloween shop for ideas or try and find some do-it-yourself articles online for.. like… fake… injuries or something.

Good luck!

I'm going as Dead Penny too! I am using the handle of a plastic lightsaber and breaking that up for the shrapnel (also coloring the more silvery parts darker). Then I was going to push the shrapnel through the dress, put fake blood around it and stick the schrapnel to my skin/undergarments with double stick tape. That should do it.

What I forgot to mention though, is that I have a passable dress but I'd like to find a better one. I know the one they used was from Anthropologie but I can't find one. Has anyone else found one?

No… I haven't even started looking for the dress… I've just found my shoes.

Also there's the beige shrug or cardigan that she wears to find… ugh.

I had a banner day last week at a late-night trip to a 24 hour Walmart in the suburbs (what better way to celebrate evil, right?) and got almost my entire costume for this.  Happy to lend my hand, and at the same time, extend it for assistance!

I've been planning on being "Dead Penny" since… July 20th, I think.  I wavered between Dr. Horrible and Penny for a while, but I thought I'd be different and go for Penny.

Here's how far I've come:

Shoes: Target, $30.  Mossimo Velda Patent Oxford Pumps in red (it's more of a burgundy).

Dress: Walmart, $20.  George Women's Pompidou Print Dress in blue.

Cardigan: Walmart, $15.  George brand, but I can't seem to find it.  I got a plain cardigan in a cream color, then walked over to the sewing section, got 5 yards of black lace and two iron-on packages with black flowers in them (about $10).  I'm crafty, so I'll sew the lace and flowers on with black thread, and use red thread as an accent to get the desired effect.

The dress doesn't have a built-in belt, which is AWESOME.  What that means for me is that I can use some of the black fabric I've got laying around to create a belt with schrapnel to wear over the dress.  It gives me the freedom to just be Penny, and also to wear the dress as myself.

My question now is this: I saw that post from real-faker about gel blood; where can I get me some of that?  Does it have a different name in the industry?  Because I will definitely use that if I can get my hands on it.

Happy to help, and I'm looking forward to hearing back from you folks on the subject!
