Does anyone have a much clearer pic of the logo on lab coat pocket? I know already it is a medical caduceus…I'm talking about an exact replica since it is slightly different than the average ones. I went to a embroidering booth and they said the picture would have to be much clearer for them to digitize it. I don’t have the photo software or knowledge to pull it myself. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Rick, have you looked at the costumes tab?  There's a decent screenshot of it there.   It's basically a red cadeuceus staff with green snakes.  I made a clipart version of it to do mockup ELE business cards …

The guy I spoke with said that the image that is on the Costumes tab on this website wasn't clear enough for them to digitize an image. Can you link your clipart?

I hand- drew this duplication of the sword/staff today. What do you think? If you see any major flaws, I can fix them. I know that the feather spacing is wrong, but I'm having a bit of trouble duplicating that exactly.

It's not exact, but using an embroidery machine would make it a lot closer. Also, when I have the snake parts I'll put them together in Photoshop and try to get the look more precisely.

I got the snakes on there and colored them. Here's the PNG. I can hook somebody up with the .psd if they want it. I'll probably do some more editing to make it look like the original, but I'm just not dedicated (being payed) enough to this project to do anything too drastic. :P

I'll add a bevel and stuff to all of them, and stroke the staff/sword thingy, and then upload a PNG or JPEG in a more sane size.

edit: The picture isn't showing up. Here's the link: http://quidish.googlepages.com/DrH.png

edit 2: I've done the beveling and dropped a shadow for good measure. If you take this in to an embroidery place, they should give you an image similar to Dr. Horrible's. I would take in a good quality screenshot of the logo on his coat for good measure. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/74/Sworduceus.png

I know this post is primarily concerning the recreation of the logo for costumes, but it still seemed the most appropriate place to insert this comment.

Apparently the caduceus symbol is not actually medical in origin, it is just frequently confused with the medical Rod of Asclepius, which looks similar (a single snake and no wings). The caduceus is associated with Hermes (or Roman Mercury) and has connotations of theft, commerce, deception and death, among others.

I'm wondering if Joss & Co. knew this or not, as the irony would be pretty fantastic. I'm lifting this quote directly from the caduceus Wikipedia article (my own underlining):

As god of the high-road and the market-place Hermes was perhaps above all else the patron of commerce and the fat purse: as a corollary, he was the special protector of the traveling salesman. As spokesman for the gods, he not only brought peace on earth (occasionally even the peace of death), but his silver-tongued eloquence could always make the worse appear the better cause. From this latter point of view, would not his symbol be suitable for certain Congressmen, all medical quacks, book agents and purveyors of vacuum cleaners, rather than for the straight-thinking, straight-speaking therapist? As conductor of the dead to their subterranean abode, his emblem would seem more appropriate on a hearse than on a physician's car.

I really like that last link of the logo with the shading. Excellent job, thanks

Vir Totus,

Exelent work!  Do you have a version with the shading on the sword and snakes, but without the drop shadow?  The PSD or a png would be great!

I am making my labcoat this weekend and this willl be a great touch!

Thanks
