I'm curious to know how people found out about Dr Horrible – and how many were already fans of Joss Whedon and how many are new to his work.

Did you find out because you know everything Joss does the minute it's announce in some obscure place? Did you find out through one of the Joss Whedon focused sites like Whedonesque? Did you hear about it because you follow the work of one of the actors? Did you stumble across it through some random Google search or through a social bookmarking site like digg or stubmble or /. ? Or, did you hear about it through some more mainstream media like the LA times or NPR?

…. I'd love to know :)

I kind of like Buffy and Angel. I really like Firefly and Serenity. I absolutely love Dr. Horrible. I don't constantly check Whedonesque or anything like that. I was checking iTunes on Thursday and saw this. I love NPH, primarily from HIMYM, but also Harold and Kumar, and I also love musicals (though, despite the evidence to the contrary, am not gay), so I thought I'd check it out. And I loved it. Now, I have this message board open on my computer for several hours, hitting refresh every 15 minutes. I want to see the next thing that's offered to us so I can fully absorb it.

I've been a Joss fan for quite a while, but I don"t love everything he's done, so I wasn't rushing around looking for his next thing.

I saw something about this on nodwick.com and thought, "I really should go take a look, I suppose".

Then I saw it on ctrl-alt-del, and I thought, "If two of the webcomic writers I faithfully follow are recommending this, I really should click that link".

Then I found out there's a TIME LIMIT!
I'm so glad I didn't miss the window, because this is one of my favorite things Joss has done.

Someone posted about it on a gaming forum I admin. (Old EverQuest server board 'unofficial', which still has a strong community despite the server no longer existing. Yay Lanys!)

There are many Firefly fans there, as well as fans of The Guild (including me!). And Buffy fans (I'm not ~ never got into it, despite the best efforts of a close friend who has done everything short of kidnapping me and making me watch season 1 and 2 and just this episode as well because if you see this one you'll love it. No? How about this one? No?! You're clearly a freak.).

I also spread the word on my blog, so that probably hauled in…hmm at least…one…maybe even TWO people.

I've been a Whedonesquer—um…Whedonesquite…? I've been a member since Firefly and it's one of 4 websites I try to check at least once every day. (The other 3 being SF Gate, Ravelry and BBC World News.)

Anyway, it popped up on Whedonesque and when the Doctor Horrrible website went live I bookmarked it.

I think my hubby found out via an iTunes email. After watching the clip we immediately paid to see the whole episode. We ended up paying for 1 and 2 TWICE because we couldn't get 3 without paying for the entire season. Then later we found out we could've seen it for FREE!!!  Oh well, it was worth the money and we're happy to help finance this project. We will definitely be spreading the word via all our blogs and websites.

We were already big fans of Joss Whedon because of Firefly and Serenity. So I knew it would be good. I just didn't realize how freakin' AWESOME it would be!!!

I read some vague summaries about it in a few general news places online that I can't remember. I watched some Buffy and Angel, mostly because I had friends that were huge fans. I discovered the Firefly DVDs and Serenity after the series was entirely done, and I own them but am not an actively involved online fan. I do think Whedon puts out some great stuff, though–and I love musicals and mad scientists, so I thought I might keep my eye out for it. Then John Joseph Adams wrote about it on his blog, which reminded me about it.

Also through ctrl+alt+del. So glad I found it though, I'm a big fan of firefly and serenity(but never really got into the online community), so when I saw that it was Joss Whedon, I was really excited about it. Big fan of musicals too.

I've introduced all of my firends that might be even remotely intested in it, and I couple that never would be just because.

I can't remember where I learned about it. I think it may have been from Nodwick.com, but I'm not certain.

I signed up for Whenonesque (org/com) and The Guild after I learned about this.

I knew about Whendonesque, but I never paid much attention to it. I had never known about The Guild before. I guess this has made me a fan.

Tim from Ctrl+Alt+Del spoke about it happening a while back, and how he was looking forward to it, and I was all "I CAN'T WAIT"

But then I did sort of, forget about it for a while, as stuff became busy, but good old Tim from Ctrl+Alt+Del posted about it the day before it was released / the day of Act II (I can't quite remember) and that reminded me.

Also, it was posted on Penny Arcade at some point recently.

a fan posted to EDDiEiZZARD.com/Blather/

I've been a fan since seeing a platinum blonde drive an RV with blinds over the windows through an attack by medieval knights.

I'm not a FANatic, I don't follow every single move. But I sure did like Firefly, I miss it terribly, I do follow those makers and actors a little.

Found out from reading through the Penny Arcade news.  Tycho recommeneded everyone and their dog go see it.  Sadly, my dog could not make it, but he was there in spirit.  He was adamant that people see it before it was too late, or at least before they would have to pay to see it.

My boyfriend found out about it on the penny arcade site at around the same time.

I subscribe to Lilith Saintcrow's blog, and she posted a Hulu link on it the day part 1 was released.  After watching the first seven minutes for free, I quit, went to iTunes and purchased the season pass.

Love Joss Whedon, who I didn't get turned on to until I saw Serenity.  I then purchased Firefly on DVD and loved it!  That is where I was also introduced to Nathan Fillion who I LOVE and ADORE and would go squeegly over if I was at the San Diego Comic-Con.  I will watch ANYTHING with Fillion in it

The Whedons are so very talented.  I love the humor and music in Dr. Horrible.

I'm a member on Dollverse, pretty sure gossi or jackal mentioned it. Honestly I can't actually remember exactly where I heard about the Doc. I assume it was there. It's all been like a wonderful dream…

I really like Buffy and Angel, it's great work and I've been a fan of it for years. And since I've been into Neil Patrick Harris lately, I found out about this Dr. Horrible-project on an interview with NPH, when he talked about it. I decided to see what it was and found this site. I've been waiting eagerly to see it and it turned out to be great, the songs are awesome. I'm from Sweden and I really hope that other people outside the US can watch Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, if not, they've missed something ;)

First mention I saw of it was March 15 on Whedonesque in this post. NPH mentioned it in an interview, many people took it to be a joke and not a real project, until Joss piped in with this…

"So…..

The bag is catless.

During the strike I started writing a musical intended as a limited internet series, 3 episodes of approximately 10 minutes each. Writing with me was my brother Jed, his fiancee Maurissa, and my other brother Zack. To my shock and surprise, we finished it. To my greater shock and surprise, we managed (with the help of many people I'll be praising at length soon) to drag it into preproduction (yes, just as DOLLHOUSE was given a start date two months away and all my comics were due.) And today, after a grueling week of writing everything ever while trying to be a producer, I got to start shooting. A musical.

This much I will say: It's the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he's too shy to talk to. And I'm having the time of my life.

"DOCTOR HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG BLOG"

Neil Patrick Harris…..as Dr. Horrible
Nathan Fillion……….as Captain Hammer
Felicia Day………….as Penny

And a cast of Dozens!

Coming soon.

There's a tight knit message board of a few people that I visit, and I just mentioned Dr. Horrible yesterday.  I had loved Buffy and Angel, though I hadn't caught any of Joss Whedon's other work.  I was so glad I got to see it.  The ending his me hard at first, but I've grown to appreciate it.
