So the video is streamed via hulu.com eh?

Unfortunately this means that only people in the United States get to view this fine work. Suppose I and the rest of the world will have to wait for the download version…

And to think I was a true believer, actually saw Serenity in theatre and everything…

I too have been bummed out by my non-US place of residence, however there is a light. From The Doc Horrible Facebook page-

"International"

"We're working on it…
…and we apologize. We're launching this thing from our living room…"

Apparently the international viewing problem is being worked on, as noted on the twitter feed. Keep an eye on this, I hope they resolve this soon.

I was just about to mention they are working on fixing the problem for international viewers

Many fans around the world have been
disappointed to discover the feared message "not available outside the
USA" but rest assured the problem is being addressed and we’ll report
back as soon as we’re aware of the details.

Never fear, Doctor Horrible will save the day…..err……ahh….. Captain
Hammer will save the day? …. well, rest assured, someone will!

I'm still disappointed, even though they claim they're working on allowing international viewers to see the episodes. I mean, seriously — how could they not know about this? No one working on the project noticed that they were using a notoriously USA-only video host? I thought everyone knew about Hulu!

I can't help but feel kind of burned, because a lot of web denizens who host through Hulu clearly don't care about non-USA fans. I'll give Joss Whedon & co. the benefit of the doubt, since this is a small, low-budget project, and hope that they just didn't know about Hulu.

If anyone really doesn't want to wait, you could try using HotSpot Shield – not sure how legal it is, but it's up to you to use at your own risk. http://hotspotshield.com

I have it on good authority that Hulu does acutally have the ability
to allow international viewers – I don't know why they're having the
delay getting things working, but I assume they did acutally do their
research and knew that they were going to be able to set it to
international viewing – there's obvioulsy just been a hitch – but hey,
this is technology – this stuff happens all the time no matter how well
you think you have things planned out.

A post from Joss Whedon himself over at whedonesque.

Dear… I want to say friends…

I Can't tell you what a thrill it was for me and Jed and Zack and
Maurissa to gather round the comp-fire and await the launch of our
musical… and find out it wasn't playing in many many places. And get
slammed. And slammed. Yay team! Team of slamming!

The fact is, we're dealing with big companies that have moved more
quickly on this venture than they've ever had to. We've always been
clear about getting this out to everyone, but that just isn't as simple
as we'd like. (At the last minute we found out about a Canadian
restriction involving it having to be in French simultaneously…) We
(well, mostly Jed) have worked to the point of delirium getting this
out to you guys, and yeah, we're experiencing technical difficulties.
Bear with us. We're (well, mostly Jed) trying to make this work for
everyone as soon as we can. It's not thoughtlessness, or jingoism,
corporate evil or scurvy. It's just new. We'll get you there.

For those of you who HAVE seen it, isn't it dreamy? Thank you for all
your comments. They buoyed us much. Sadly, we really just phoned in the
next two eps, so it's all downhill. Jestage!
And now, I fly! (Coach.) xoxo -j.

This link was given by the team of Dr Horrble via their Twitter site:

http://www.kuanhoong.com/2007/12/18/how-to-watch-hulu-shows-outside-of-usa/

This allows you to download an application that gives you a US IP address and therefore you can view Part 1. They are still working on a more permanent solution so subscribe to their twitter if you want to hear the news as it comes in:

http://twitter.com/drhorrible

I’ve seen it and it is really as great as you think it will be. Do the download and have patience and hopefully it’ll all come out in the wash. Maybe in that Laundromat where Dr Horrible and Penny meet up….

You are beholden to no man (http://worldofhiglet.blogspot.com/)

I only just watched it a while ago so didn't encounter the problems, but great to see Joss commenting on them, and I'm very disappointed some ignorant people thought it was down to jingoism or something. People are too quick to complain about silly things without thinking it through. And then complain about people's very fair complaints about Human Rights or whatever because they feel all bothered…..

Anyway, Thank you for making it work internationally!

Hey there any chance of getting Dr. Horrible on Itunes in other countries like Ireland maybe pwwwease……. with puppydog eyes fluttering.
Big Whedonite here and a fan of the Guild starring and developed by Miss Felicia Day. I'll do anything to to get my fix. I was up this morning at 6 because of the time difference and got the dreaded US only bit oh how sad I was, then I saw that it was fixed while in work Happy again , now the site has crashed sad again :-( , then I saw it was on itunes for only $4 happy again, so I set up an Itunes account and you can't purchase from another country arrrgh .
It's like being a manic depressive on the wrong pills ;-) .
Looks like Dr. Horrible is a victim of its own success.
Enough whining from me I'm sure somthing will be sorted shortly.
Just goes to show how popular Dr. Horrible is all over the globe.
Best of luck to all those involved, hopefully this will show off all your talents to the world. I expect to see loads of stuff in the press about this most unique and brave venture.

P.S. THANKS

Just wanted to make a couple of generic comments and leave a note for Joss Whedon and/or the members of his cast and crew. I see Whedonesque underwent some catastrophic failure so I'm hoping someone from the DHSAB team trawls these forums.

First off: Loved it. Can't wait for act 2.

Joss kindly requested that we don't get all piratey – specifically within the context of the series being made available for download after the 20th. To quote one of Joss' memorable characters: "You can't stop the signal, [Joss]."

Innocent

Seriously, though… I would be very happy to support Mutant Enemy / Joss and his cast and crew in this bold endeavour. The problem is that I can't use iTunes to download anything in my country. And even if I could I despise the lock-in inherent in using iTunes when downloading media. If I want to watch/listen to stuff I've downloaded with iTunes on my Linux box..? Sorry, can't. What if I want to play it in another player? <insert loud buzzer sound here /> Sorry again!

I understand that you want to protect your work in some way but DRM in its current implementation sucks. Tech companies' propensity to push products that might deny me the use of the data (which I paid money for) on my system is truly evil – more eviller than Skeletor (or Bad Horse for that matter).

Anyway – just wanted to add my voice to the rabbling, in case someone hasn't let Joss know yet. People in forgotten countries like myself won't be able to 'legally' download Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog at all unless distribution mechanisms other than location-limited services such as iTunes and Amazon are used.

For my part: You can count on my support with the DVD release, Joss. Hopefully there will be a local distributor (customs duties on leisure items *almost* sucks worse than DRM… almost) but even if there isn't I'll ask uncle Amazon nicely for a copy for Christmas.
