English subtitles for Commentary! The Musical, based on the lyrics at the official site and a1tipop's transcription of the dialogue, with some of my own corrections and timed to the best of my ability in a day's rushed work.

I've never actually subtitled anything before and wasn't entirely prepared when my VLC didn't want to use the subtitles properly with the actual DVD, but ripping the files from the DVD and playing those with the subtitles works aside from the subtitles then being a bit behind (can be corrected by setting a delay on the subtitles, except I can't quite figure out how to do that on the new version of VLC). Don't know how it works in other media players. At least I hope it helps somebody?

One .srt (SubRIP) file with subtitles that can be applied to an existing video file (it does not not the video file itself, if that's what you were worrying about). I originally meant to link straight to the file, but it didn't seem to work for some reason, so I zipped it.

I am The Green Dragon I leave no trail behind. I go about my evil deeds without stressing my mind. No one has ever caught up to me as they say. Then again people fear me more and more each day.

Why do you think subtitles are illegal? :/ Remember, I'm not providing a video with subtitles – it's just subtitles that can be played on top of any video but will only make sense with Commentary! The Musical. It's mostly analogous to transcribing the lyrics of songs, and look how many websites do that. It's just that reading the whole thing is obviously an inferior experience to actually watching and listening to it; nobody will read my subtitles and therefore think, "Aha, now I won't have to buy the DVD."

Sweet!  Thanks for this.  (And incidentally, Media Player Classic can add the subtitles in when playing straight from the DVD, so it's nice and painless.  In fact for extra entertainment value you can enable the regular DVD subtitles at the same time…)

Though some of the durations seem a little shorter than they should be…

Great! :) I'm glad this is managing to be useful. Although when I try to get it working in Media Player Classic, the subtitles start a minute in and keep flickering. o_O How did you get it to work right?

Once I find that out, I can probably readjust some of the durations.

I wasn't sure if that was a copyright infrigment or something that's all.  I'm not a lawyer so I have no clue about what is right or wrong or sideways or Hammer getting put in a fru fru dress. *shuts up*

I didn't do anything particularly special; I just hit Ctrl-D to load the DVD and then Ctrl-L to load the subtitles, once at the DVD menu.  Then I went to Special Features and started Commentary!.

If it helps, I'm actually using MPC-homecinema 1.1.0.  (Which is actually pretty old now.  Maybe I should upgrade it.)

Ah, I got that and it works great. I see what you mean about the durations – I suspect the program I used to time the subtitles was a bit faulty. I also caught a couple of typos now. Editing time! :)

ETA: I've fixed and updated the subtitles. The timing and duration should now be much better. :)

Yep, looks much better.  Although the "Commentary!" lines in the intro still seem a little too short.

Still: great stuff! :)

I updated the subtitles again with some tweaked timings, some lines that weren't in before because they're not in the official lyrics (Zack's comments during the chorus of "Zack's Rap", a "No" in "Nobody's Asian in the Movies", and the ends of "Ninja Ropes" and "All About Me"), and the addition of some 'sound effects' ("(awkward pause)", "(laughing)", "(evil laugh)" and "(sobbing)"); there might be more that I can't remember off the top of my head. I couldn't make some of those lines out very well or at all, so corrections and pointers would be much appreciated if you have any.

I've made some tweaks to the file (as redownloaded today).  Mostly just extending some of the times a bit, where the notes were held longer than the subtitles showed previously.  I've also corrected a few of the background words, though there's still one phrase in Ninja Ropes that I can't quite make out.

(The zipfile contains the full edited .srt file and a .diff file showing the differences between this and the one antialiasis posted, as downloaded today.)

There was one other bit that I'm not sure about, and I didn't change in the subtitle file: when Joss says "spoiler warning" in Pick it Apart, it sounds like he's saying "spoiler warning on".  But it doesn't say that in the official lyrics, so I'm not sure about the subtitle.  (Another possibility is that it's "spoiler warning" followed by "oh, we're gonna pick pick pick pick pick it apart".)
