Leave the story where it is!

This was a perfect story arc here, it should be left alone for all time just how it is. This obsession with continuing productions past the end of their storyline is absurd. As good story has no ending, you just have to choose when to stop telling it, and Joss chose a great place to end this one.

The British have the right idea when it comes to these things, many of their much loved series only last 6 or 12 episodes in total and are then never resurrected This is why the English version of the Office will still be funny and revered long after everyone is bored with the US version.

I loved Dr Horrible, and was sad to see it end so quickly, but I don't want to see more for there's really nothing left to tell. You discover that he wasn't really that Horrible after all but had to pay for his megalomaniac obsession. He could have had the girl of his dreams if only he not tried so hard to win her.

Joss is a fantastically creative guy and I look forward to his next adventure, but please! Leave Dr. Horrible where it stands.

I would usually agree with you, but when I think back to how each season of Buffy was somewhat of a stand alone, yet they flowed together great, I somehow think Joss could pull off a great sequel or prequel.

I still say, "What if these 3 acts weren't the whole story but, rather, the beginning…setting the stage for Dr. H's reign of fear… or his never-ending, tough trek out of Hell?"

I totally agree with Gamut. When the last lines were spoken, I didn't get a sense that "It's over," at all. It was more like "Prepare to have your mind blown, we're about to take you for the ride of your life, and this was just an appetizer…are you hungry?"  Cool

Here's what I mean:

Now the nightmare's real

Now Dr. Horrible is here

To make you quake with fear

To make the whole world kneel,

And I won't feel a thing.

Dr. Horrible is HERE. He's ready to strike terror and (and laughter) into all of us. That's the feeling I got when I heard that line.

The more I think about it, the more Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog feels like an amazing prequel, like "the story before the story," that it was just BEGGING for a sequel.

Like we haven't even heard the story yet, we've just been prepared for it. So when we do hear it, they won't have to spend the first half trying to make him a villlain we can identify with, and empathize with, because we already KNOW him, and love him. So they can simply jump right into the story without any filler trying to make us like him.

Dr. Horrible was created as an attempt at developing an alternative to traditional TV and movie distribution. As such it was developed as a stand alone story as they were not sure how well it would be received. But I am sure it was always their hope that it would be popular and they could develop it more in the future. Its not like the Wright brother built an airplane, got it off the ground for a few seconds then said, "Well, I told you that would work. Let's go do something completely different now." I believe that not only are there plans for more direct-to-web content but specifically for they exist for Dr. Horrible.

I agree, there was a Darth Vader origin vibe to the creation of Dr. Horrible (but done right).

There's also another possibility.

Have you seen all the rewrites, extended endings and musings over future episodes we've done? Maybe that's what we're supposed to have… conjecture.

In Alien, they did their best to show you as little as possible of the thing. Why? It's because your mind can come up with Horrors far greater than anything anyone else can show to you. (That and they didn't want people to see the Human configuration of the thing after they thought about it more.)

They could be leaving it all up to our imagination for what happens next since nobody could show us anything more dramatic or Horrible than what our minds can create.

Either way, I'm still curious to know what they think would happen next.

I dunno if a sequel is what we need, I think we need a prequel to find out why Billy wanted to be evil in the first place.  Why not become good (besides the fact that evil is so much more fun)?

Hmmm…

As much as I'd like more Dr. Horrible content, I really love the current presentation.

It's a solid three-part act, it really doesn't need any more explanation.

Still, if I had to pick I'd prefer a prequel.

I think that the best addition to Dr Horrible would be another musical with different main characters. Dr Horrible and Captain Hammer could be in the background (like Fake Thomas Jefferson and even Bad Horse). The huge variety of ELE applications demonstrates that there are many potential tales to be told within Dr Horrible's world.

At first, I was satisfied with Dr. Horrible just as it was, in all its three-act glory, and thought that if Joss Whedon and company tried to make a sequel, it would be absolutely terrible. I thought that any new attempts to further the story would just sully its good (Evil?) name, and only serve to take away the resounding impact it left me with. However, I've been reflecting on it lately, and have come to the conclusion that a sequel (Hell, maybe even a full-blown trilogy if necessary,) would be extremely welcome. All I had been thinking about were all the pitfalls and clichés that Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog could fall victim to, but wouldn't its creators, who are highly respected writers and directors, see these situations coming and avoid them, making a sequel equal to or (Maybe, just maybe,) superior to its predecessor?

Like Gamut said, "What if these 3 acts weren't the whole story but, rather, the beginning…setting the stage for Dr. H's reign of fear… or his never-ending, tough trek out of Hell?", or lengendarylugi with "The more I think about it, the more Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog feels like an amazing prequel, like "the story before the story," that it was just BEGGING for a sequel."

Also, for the argument against the sequel(s) because it (they) will take away the impact, doesn't anyone think that some plot possibilities might give strength and even more meaning to the previous ending?

If they don't decide to continue the story, that's perfectly fine too, for it is enthralling and perfect the way it is, but I am more than willing now to watch what happens next to our beloved characters.

Actually, as someone who has followed Joss for a while now, what I consider the obvious sequel would have to involve a juxtaposition betweenthe good captain and Doctor Horrible.  I don't mean to second guess Joss, but for my thoughts, Dr horrible would need to be forced into a moral choice.  When the good Captain starts to actually create social change as a villain (or potentially an outlaw hero similar to the Punisher?) he will be forced to decide between vengeance (and his loyalty to the league and his new found power) and his core ideals.  Course it has also been my experience tha Joss seems to always put one more twist on things than I come up with ahead of time, so you never know.

I'm 50/50 on the subject.

I loved Dr. Horrible. The three acts makes a perfect story, and doesn't need to be added onto. Plus, how many times have we seen a sequel to a movie and it didn't live up to our expectations and we wonder why they made it? Joss is an amazing writer, and I know he can a good job, but is a sequel really what we want?

On the other hand. I would like to see this story continued. The story was all about Dr. Horrible wanting to be with Penny, and in the end his anger towards Hammer is what killed her. The way I see it now, Hammer is out of the way, Penny is dead, how can the story go on? It's not the same without those characters. I personally think, and I know others think this, Dr. Horrible (being an evil Dr.) is going to try to ressurect Penny.

That is the only way there can be a sequel in my opinion. It won't be Dr. Horrible any other way.

I do want a sequel to this, at first it was because the ending didn't sit well with me. I grew up with happy endings and such, and have since grown into preferring tragic endings. But with this I just sort of saw it with Dr. Horrible becoming real, and still getting Penny.

But then, thinking it over and watching it (two more times >.>), I realized that Penny did have to die. But she does need to make a return somehow. But not through Dr. Horrible, but maybe another superhero? And she becomes his true nemesis or something. Seeing as she does represent what heroes should be. Morally righteous, good, just and selfless. Willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the many. She has given her life toward helping those who need it, more literally in her death (irony!). While Dr. Horrible/Billy, has gone down the more radical, evil, path. Thinking to rebuild from the ashes. They conflicted in ideals when they were just Billy and Penny. Now as Dr. Horrible and (insert hero name here), the conflicts are even greater.

I see my feelings reflected by many here. Part of me respects the tragedy of it, part of me wants it to keep going, and part of me wants Billy to end up with Penny….

That said, I hope they don't bring Penny back. It would just be lame. Either, she had super powers all along (ala the cheerleader in HEROES), or she is granted life through some 'miracle'.

Just too convenient and too overdone. (Though I agree MAYBE the creators could pull it off…)

Now, if the doctor set out to ressurect her as part of his evil goals…. that would give the story something to run on. But if he ever did succeed, it would end the story.

when i first saw it, right before billy said his last two lines, i was convinced that some sort of happy ending would be acheived through a time travel ray.

yes, i know, it was silly. i just kept thinking "the bar isn't at the end quite yet!", but then it ended.

it would be amazingly lame if they did that and did it wrong wrong, but if they made a sequel, they'd probably have to bring penny back. mr whedon has done it before (buffy died twice, remember?), and he might yet do it again.

honestly, i really hope we don't get any sort of prequel. we have the motivation there, he says it in the opening vlog entry, what we don't know is what comes next.

I just have to say… nice work Joss.  I was expecting something great and he did just that. With Mr. Whedon I'm never disappointed and I hope to see more work like this in the very near future. Whether it be an addition to this story-line or any other new and exciting adventure, I'm in!

I have to agree. While Billy attempted the personna of an evil individual as Dr. Horrible, you saw that he did have standards as to what he was/wasn't willing to to. I think the death of Penny will add the depth of remorse/humanity to his character as he goes on in the campaigns of the ELE.

I think that any great show or movie has to have more. It's not something that someone can say oh it ended that's it. There always is something more to discuss something more to explore. I have written a story on Zantarni.com an avatar site. I ended it with me ending at the town on that site but I left it open for more should I choose to continue it. Take Angel it was a great show but the show ended with us not knowing if the world ended in their favor or not. Same way with 7th Heaven when they chose to end the show they ended it with a opening for more. That is what happened more shows since it was left open. No matter how great you think a show ended there is always something that will make you go "Wait what about?" and because there is no sequeal it doesn't get answered.

I am The Green Dragon I leave no trail behind. I go about my evil deeds without stressing my mind. No one has ever caught up to me as they say. Then again people fear me more and more each day.
